That's a dumb complaint. If the cloth wasn't there her backside would have been exposed anyway. The fabric is not armor.

Perhaps this particular armor is meant for combat situations where the wearer takes cover behind objects and peeks out to fire. The wearer's lower body would rarely be exposed to the enemy's line of fire. Moving from one piece of cover to the next swifty would be easier to do without hindering armor pieces (and weight) from the hip down. Thus the heavy protection up top and lighter protection on the bottom. And the skin? well, maybe it's hot.. ventilation is good.

Or she is some sort of tank commander and her tang got destroyed.
Now she has to fight on foot until reinforcements arrive.
It can be pretty hot inside tanks, and since her lower half would stay inside, it doesn't need that much protection.
Or it could just be perfectly normal where she comes from. Maybe birthrates at all places are dangerously low and this it is forbidden by world(galaxy)-wide law to show below the waistline anyway. To increase birthrates the coverage of certain parts of everyones bodies has to stick to light clothing at all times. The guy's uniforms would be similar revealing.

She is great.
I think her skin was hardened by some kind of mutation that took place in those specific areas of her body.
Now she can show off her legs and backside for tactical reasons; enemy distraction.

Blimey charlie, her backside has my undivided attention. Charlie Mike, squad leader! However, I still appreciate the snapshot in time this picture represents.
I'm also surprised at the hostility and vulgarity over this artwork, as if it were a proof of concept armor set for Future Warrior with billions of dollars at stake. It's science FICTION, and likely a contractual obligation.
