A close friend of me told me and it didn't bother me. And then months later we started dating. And then almost three years later I'm still with him.

Figure out what is right for that person, and do that, but don't think that they'll not be able to be a friend if they're not romantically interested. I was not at all interested in the person who is now my boyfriend. He accepted that and didn't push and we had a physical relationship still (where by physical I mean very cuddly and nothing more) as well as a very close friendship. That's what was right for us, it wouldn't be right for everyone. So figure out the individual.

I am with my girlfriend for 6 months and a week now, and we both had crushes on each other. It took me awhile because she had been my best friend for a year, and she's my first girlfriend, and i was so nervous, didn't know what she'd say if i told her, or showed her that i think i loved her, but i finally did, and she loves me back. :3

so try to work up some courage, because it might turn out good for you. :3

Whether to tell depends on what you fear more: [potential] disappointment or uncertainty.
But uncertainty, for me, is just so... unsettling? I guess I'd rather just /know/ than be in a constant state of yes-no-maybe?

I went through EXACTLY this, ST. The worst part was, he had a gf. He was my best friend, and ... it hurt so much.

But as we grew closer, I eventually told him. He realized he loved me back, and broke up with his gf a few weeks later, for me.

and now, we've been together for almost 3 months.

so, yeah. TELL HIM!

This feels like my secret also, expect I told him once and of course he didn't, it's been a year and I still like him, and he has the most amazing girlfriend but I want them to break up, I guess that makes me a bad person.

SusantheMartian is right on the money...you should tell them, as in my case- I would have never known the man I love also loved me back had our mutual friend not confided his secret to me...so tell them...you never know...love could blossom!

I think you should tell them, ST. It's better to try and fail by the wayside (who knows, perhaps they do feel the same!) than never say anything and live with the regret.

Heartbreak and rejection are horrible, yes, but I think the regret of never doing anything is far, far worse. Especially when it just might be possible they feel the same.
