What you are about to read is heavily based on personal experiences.
Shallow.
The art is fine.
Deep.
As a heavy Dark Souls fan I recognized Artorias rather quickly. (Mainly due to tail and head-thingy.)
But considering we've only seen him in his corrupted form (only counting in-game, not any consept art), I'd say you had to take a chance at which color of the coat to represent him.
I think that the color white is for the ''Good''. ''Good'' as in blindly devoted ''good''. Like Solaire.
In the Dark Souls lore, Artorias is said to have sacrificed his shield to protect his companion, Sif.
Which means Artorias is good, but good in the way that he isn't blind to do good to others besides any King, Queen or Entity. Once again, like Solaire.
Q: OMFG! Then what color do YOU think he should be, smart-ass?
A: I don't know. A brighter shade of red... I think. In my eyes, Red symbolizes Compassion, Passion and Power. But also Hatred and Madness.
Lastly. I think it would be more suitable for him to be an Earth Pony since I associate Pegasi to Agility and Swiftness while Earth Ponies is all about the raw power.
Why? Beacause Artorias had the strength to wield a GREATSWORD in one hand and a GREATSHIELD in the other.
