Description
Geez y'all, this past summer's been a nightmare. But finally I got time to put together a lineup of the characters everyone's been waiting for, so here ya go.I generally tried to keep the size relationships between the characters the same (Tummi might have gotten a smidge taller), and to try to find the 'center of expression' for each one to keep the personality intact. A couple of deliberate changes to design were made, aside from the overall stylistic differences between this style and the official show style: Cubbi got pants (kid's growing up, he needs some! lol), and Zummi got an extra little fringe of hair behind the ears, both because to me that helps push the 'Wizard of Oz' sort of effect he has going, and because I'm just personally not a big fan of bald designs.
Sunni was probably the hardest for me to do, she took two tries. She's always been the character I connected with the least - nobody's fault, she's not a bad character, it's just one of those things. Finally I realized that despite the show's attempts to give her a Cyndi Lauper edge, she's really probably more like Norma Jean Baker before Norma Jean became Marilyn Monroe. So there was that.
Incidentally, I've had the colors for Gusto and Gruffi worked out for ages, and have been keying all the other character's colors off of those, all the way back to the Lady Bane designs. Colors on the screenshots of the show are all over the map, based on the lighting of the scene they're in.
Feet are hard. Anthro feet are hard. Still working on that.
Gummi Bears are copyright Disney.

I hope Disney+ includes this and others from their classic TV blocks.

Ref: color keys.
Google is your friend. IGS "Gummi Bear Character Refernces" and voila'! Of course, each value is given the color code for Disney Animation, so whatever help might be limited.
I had to actually Wiki the Marilyn refence: seems Ms. Mortenson was a.k.a. Ms. Baker. The more you know...
YourΒ take on the Original Six Plus One is both refreshing and very on-model. The well-done cel-shading always wins with me.
Bonus Multiplier: Gusto's subtle jowl-flap

Thanks for the kind comments! I especially appreciate the one about the characters being 'on-model', since the style is different from the official one of the show; it's good to know other people think the characters' spirits are shining through.

I love how solid and well balanced all of your designs and colors are, your shadows are really cool it gives a very stylistic, storybook look and your hands are amazing!
I actually got quite a kick out of Sunni's attitude. She was a total 80's child.
And yes, Cubbi's "outfit" lends itslef to be a bit problematic when making them a bit taller. You're kinda' forced to give him pants!
Getting their colors right is also tough. I mean there was, what, FOUR different studios during the show's run?! You just need to pick your fave and go, it seems.Β Β
Their feet are VERY difficult to get right. Whatever "right" is, since their design changes between seasons.Β Are they more paws or are they more feet? I would say "feet" at this point.Β I still have nothing but trouble drawing their feet. I really like what you're doing, though. That's what I've been moving toward as well. Β
Incredible work, of course. Β

Thank you!
Wow, there were four different studios doing the animation? I did not know that. It does help explain some of the variance. Like you say, pick a fave and go.Β And it's nice to know I'm not the only one having trouble with the feet. The really easy, simple designs that are just ovals with lines just don't look quite as nice as the designs with defined toes. Looking at some of the paw designs for the animated sections of "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" actually really helped. Maybe with more practice...

Thank you! Yeah...the sizes were harder than one would expect. I was going by a size chart I found on the internet, and using 'heads' to measure them, but somehow size creep seems to be a thing. By the time I got to Zummi, measuring in heads made him too tall in relation to Tummi, which is why Tummi ended up getting just a tad taller. o_O ^^
That's an interesting point about Tummi. It's funny...it seems like sometimes big people go to a bit of an extreme that way. Maybe their size makes them extra aware of just how much damage they could do if they really wanted to, so they sort of go the opposite direction?

I definitely think that has something to do with it. Seems like those folk either restrain themselves so much that they don't know WHEN to advocate for themselves or they don't know their own strength and end up doing a lot of damage. Tummi is such just a...NICE character that he never seems to want to cause anyone any trouble. I _still_ grin like an idiot in "Gummi's At Sea" when he has enough and totally tells Gruffi off...though in a G-rated way of course

They look great! I applaud you for getting the sizes right. I find that to be mind blowingly difficult at times. Always thought it was funny that Tummi was the tallest and largest but also the biggest pushover.
I like the additions you've added while keeping the same tone. And yes, Cubbi needs pants!
