Description
That's a logo I have designed for my wife's (maril1 ) illustrated novel, "Antara". She wrote the story and made all the other illustrations. The theme is fantasy romance (for young adults), and the main character is a mermaid, Asteria.
You can view the trailer here:
www.youtube.com/user/marilenamβ¦
For more info, you can visit Amazon:
www.amazon.com/Antara-ebook/dpβ¦
There are both ebook and paperback versions available.
The book is also available at Barnes&Noble, iBookstore and other online stores.

Too good for words. I honestly don't know how text could possibly look any better.

That is ridiculously gorgeous. What program did you make it in? How did you get the nice shiny edge around the text like that? The tail is an awesome detail. I didn't notice that until I just now gave it another look.
Man... I want something this awesome for my book when I finish it... Of course, I don't even have a title for it yet so how can awesome text be done?

Thanks! I made that in Photoshop, as usual.

ALL of that was Photoshop? Nu-uh... Do you have special actions/filters/etc. that you used to create this? And what version of PS? Did the font come like that with the tail or did you have to do, like, vector work on the A?

Deligaris In reply to Faraleigh [2012-02-28 23:22:12 +0000 UTC]
I don't have any special actions, I just used the classic PS effects as a base and painted over some parts.
The same for the logo, I used a font type as a base and then I customized it, modifying several areas.

I hope to not sound too terribly annoying (though hopefully my laziness causing great lapses of time between responses helps), but would there be any sort of step-by-step on how you made this? Maybe I'm more of a newb with PS than I thought but I can't imagine how most of this was made with just classic effects. What version of PS do you use? Maybe that's the problem. I'm a dinosaur, using Adobe CS3 still.

The logo is AWESOME - I don't think I've ever seen anything at this level on a store-bought book.

Beautiful design. Love the intricate gilded stone texture you used; combined with the font, it's perfect for a fantasy-romance. The glowing light effects really add a mystical feel and make the gold stand out well.
My only gripe is in the repetitive wood texture for the background. It takes from the realism a bit when you look closely at the details, which, with something as fine as this, is something you want to do to soak in all the splendor of the design.
Other than that though, this is a wonderful logo all-around. A work of art as a cover for a work of art.

Thank you very much!
The background is just that, not related to the logo or the book, so I quickly threw that texture in to break the flatness a bit.

Understandable. Though, honestly, I think it looks quite good in concept as the background. Like fancy stained wood paneling for the book cover; very sleek and contemporary in its elegant simplicity.
