“Come on, Elysia,” Aytan urged, pausing again while the pale fawn tottered after him on her spindly legs - he often forgot her short legs could not match pace with his own. “Not far to go now.”
“Where are we going?” The youngster said, gasping for air. She still struggled to breathe at times, even a season after the incident. “Are we going to Eldhara?”
“No, my dear.” Aytan sighed, standing still to let her catch her breath a little, and wincing as she coughed. “We’re going to see another of my friends, the mother of an apprentice of mine. She has two young fawns as well, perhaps you could make friends with them?”
Elysia’s ears flattened against her neck. Perhaps not. Aytan grimaced.
“Come along, only a little way further now.” He moved off again, though more slowly, to allow her to keep pace more easily.
