Description REPAIRED!!! ... I'm in LOOOVEEEE!!!!     Bought this one because I kept thinking of a phrase ''chummy chum-chum'' and then, lo and behold, an affordable *Chum* typewriter appeared on eBay! Knew we were destined to be friends!

Chum is basically a Remington Portable No. 3 - typewriterdatabase.com/Remingt…

but marketed under Smith Premier: this brand was acquired by Remington in 1921 or so (Smith also merged with Corona typewriters around 1925, making it a Smith-Corona brand).

So between a Remington 3 and the Chum there might be a couple of years difference (about 6 or 8 or so, as well as a whole different font), but it's essentially the same parts and, I hope, quality!

Remington was originally sold for $60 in 1924: www.typewritersperiodandmodern…
- which is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,088.86 today!!!

The Chum has a snappy and interesting inner action, it works on springs and gears and sounds great - you have to hit the key all the way through, otherwise you get no print or semi-print and the space ''skips'' without the letter imprinting. Therefore it's good with regular and fast typing, but not lightening-speed-super-fast, unless you really PUNCH! those keys (don't, the punctuation marks come through very strongly, please look well after your typewriter!) This one had about four or five bent keys, which are now straight(ish, R still needs a bit more adjusting) and flat small back drums, which can't be removed by a non expert  but I just used gummy electro-insulating tape, added where it needed adding and cut where it needed cutting, because it's so thin it could easily get in the right shape, also added the tape to the drum where these make contact, so as to make it an extra tight  experience, so the rollers now grab the three (to protect the main drum from chipping) sheets of paper without the aid of a hand physically pushing the paper: you just press the leaver and slide! How neat is that!

... Don't you sometimes wish old typewriters like these had in-built spell-check?!  Electronic ones have it, but hey, the more reason to love and appreciate the old-timers! And attempt to spell better!
