a true masterpiece
love the mix of thick comic like lines, and the thin details
love the mix of naturalistic/ old scool and modern (that crown!!)
oh well, oh my, I'm jealous

thank you very much. glad someone liked that silly crown. comic/naturalistic with old school/modern mixes, you got it; exactly what i was going for.

thanks mate! apreciate it. summer's going ok. just enjoying the weather. might go fishing tomorrow and fill up my second summer sketchbook. i basically filled up one already with just moops and comicbook characters. just finished reading the first two volumes of the ultimates and might get through wolverine's origin and the end collected editions i just got. how 'bout you?

Right now, i'm super busy with my senior project class, a water-based media class, and a really boring Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican (Aztecs, Olmec, Mayans) Class...And I wish I didn't have the latter two so I could focus on my portfolio. Needless to say, there's gonna be many a sleepless night here. I like sleep, so it kinda sucks. But if I want to graduate on time, I have to keep taking 3 classes at a time. After I graduate, I really have no idea where I'm going. Next quarter I have to work hard at getting the self promotion stuff done, making booklets, website, business cards, all that stuff. Pretty much a lot of things I don't really want to do. I just want to draw. But that's how it goes. As for what I'm reading..I love the ultimates, but I haven't read much of volume 2 and lately I've really been getting into Frank Cho's work..he's amazing. And I wish Adam Hughes did more than covers, but he's still my idol. If you don't know who I'm referring to just go to [link] and [link] . And you'll probably be hooked.

water based media sounds cool. and i've always been interested aztec and mayan history. yeah i need to do a little self-promo too. Cho and Hughes are always amazing. love that wonder woman stuff. thanks for the links, never been to their sites before.

i dont know if i asked you before, but does australia have a comic book market? can artists make a living doing comics...or is it pretty much just illustration and graphic design? Even here in the states, I'm reminded almost every day how difficult it is to get a job..and being able to make a living at illustrating comics. My professor tells me its much easier to do illustration...kinda unnerving to me, but comics are not exactly popular among the masses, they seem to be pretty limited in their appeal.

cova In reply to bearmantooth [2006-01-20 05:19:16 +0000 UTC]

yeah i think you asked me before. australia's comic book industry is only just starting to emerge. most artists here still look to overseas clients for work. illustration would be alot easier here too. as for me, it's still pretty hard to get local illustration or even graphic design work here. I'm in a communication design course so it may not give me enough skills needed for something like general illustration which is something i'd want to do more of. i've never really been much of a graphic designer anyway which makes me wish i had taken a multimedia course i got into so i could just make animated movies all day.

i love all the nature and girls entwined, the tree makes a great backdrop and the stag is amazing in the centre!
so different from your robots etc. (which are also amazing! this is just different and interesting to see)
looks like a really retro and cool cd cover to me, the 'dirty' white background really sets it off, it feels nice and old
