Description

Port Talbot Railway 0-6-0ST No. 813 shunting at Bewdley on September 23, 2001. This locomotive was completed in 1901 by Hudswell Clarke for the Port Talbot Railway & Dock Co. which, from 1908, was operated by the mighty Great Western Railway. The GWR then took over the PTR&D completely in 1922. As an absorbed engine (not a ‘natural’ GWR one) her numberplates have the letters ‘GWR’ cast above the number.

After sale by the GWR and some National Coal Board colliery service, No. 813 entered preservation in 1967. She resides on the Severn Valley Railway.

Note the centre-pivot signal, often used in areas of restricted clearance.
