Sadly no, I actually wasn't aware of Ingward when I painted this having not played any of the Souls games (yet! I will, one day lol).  It was more inspired by a mix of old Northern Renaissance religious paintings (they used lots of red) and the MtG card Invoke Prejudice, mixed in with Lovecraftian creepiness.

But yeah, from what I've seen the designwork in the Souls series (and Bloodborne too) are crazycool and I'm looking forward to playing them one day.

Thanks Originally he was a bit bigger but I wanted to push the scale of things further so I made him a lot smaller; he was a little smaller at one point in the piece but it felt a little too small to me

I can see the animation in my mind, the cleric walks to the top of the steps and slowly you see giant teeth unfurling from the wall, like slabs of stone emerging out of wet concrete, and when it has finally opened fully it releases this incredibly fetid, noxious exhalation before consuming the sacrificial body.

Something like that..and no, I wouldn't want to volunteer for that, either haha
