Description
A Gulf, Mobile & Ohio train stops in Joliet to pick up passengers for Springfield and points south on a very gray day in 1966. At this point in time it was very clear that the financials did not favor the continuation of service of any kind. The train was dirty, the equipment unreliable and it really only ran because they had a contract with the post office for bulk mail. Count the head end revenue cars.Check out that elevated dwarf semaphore.
I caught this engine on this train more than once [link]

GM&O had some nice equipment at one time. Love seeing the old covered wagons.
Thank you again.

Unfortunately I missed the GM&O during it's prime. I was lucky enough to catch it while it was still running passenger service but never saw any equipment that could be called "varnish."

I had a friend (RIP) who lived in Carbondale, Ill. He was a GM&O railfan and modeler. When he lived out here in Oregon 20 years ago, he shared thousands of slides and had many wonderful models.
I am a UP modeler. Have been since '71. I have a scratch built Big Blow in need of chassis' and power. It is a bit rough since it was done in the '70's, but I still cherish it.
Regards,
Marko

Cool shot Chris! I love the GM&O logo! I wonder how you get a dent in the nose like that? A low flying wild turkey maybe?

Have you ever heard of the private car called the GM&O 50. Its a heavy weight business car. It's still used today on the Patron tequila train.

Tom,
I saw a lot of business cars through the years but never on the Gulf.

The new color ain't bad but I liked to old paint job. The inside on the other hand is way over the top. I couldn't find an interior shot.

Seems a little "over the top" to me... but he bought it... it still rolls... and that is better than what happened to most of it's companions. Thanks for sharing Tom
