Description The Zanpakuto Tsuba Index

The purpose of these drawings is to help swordmakers and propmakers. When it comes to making katana's or zanpakuto's most of the time the tsuba is the most unique part of the sword. It is the part of the katana which has most of design. So I drew up these closely detailed and accurate measurements of these tsuba's. With these tsuba's they act as a reference when your going to attempt to make the sword. If you use a scene from a anime or manga to make use reference for your tsuba, it might be flawed. So I have saved you the trouble and drawn them all out clearly, with measurements so you can print and cut them out.

Tensa Zangetsu: Whoever is going to be making a tensa zangetsu and I know alot of you are your gonna need this to make the perfect guard. Make sure the guard is in that position when it slides down the sword. The outer rim is mildly difficult.

Sode No Shirayuki: Since I sold my Sode No Shirayuki I couldnt get the original guard so I had to redraw it again. However LOTS of people make sode no shirayuki's so your gonna need this. I wouldnt really advise using this guard but the details are all correct.

Important Notes:

. ALL these guards slide into swords with a thicnkess of 5 mm and 30 mm long, there are some exceptions.
.The parrallel lines are the rims of the guards that you cut out of balsa wood and glue onto the main guard.
.Download the full version, then copy and paste it, print it off then cut it out with scissors.
.Once it the paper tsuba is cut out, then draw around it with a pencil on the wood, then cut it out to finish.

The measures(size) of the guard of Tensa Zangetsu look me a little bit small, is it the truth measures (size) to make a reproduction for a cosplay?
If it is not, knows you the truth measures of the guarding?
I want to make it

May I just ask why you wouldn't advice using the sode no shirayuki guard?? Btw I really hope to make my own sword and I'll be using your tutorials. Your effort to help is greatly appreciated. Now if I can just find a way to get the materials cheaply and gather up all those tools needed.

chioky In reply to MidnightOokami [2010-07-29 16:20:55 +0000 UTC]

the guard is suppose to be more oval, but I had difficult drawing it first

Thank you so much for your tsuba guides! You enabled me to make Sode no Shirayuki (though it's out of foamboard, since I don't have access to woodcutting materials) for my cosplay this year. I will also be looking at your tsuka tutorials for the wrapping.

OK I can make the Katana but how do you attach the Tsuba? do you just slide it down the blade or is it more complicated and how do you make it stay there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to DeviantKid217 [2009-11-07 23:40:39 +0000 UTC]

you just slide it down the blade

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeviantKid217 In reply to chioky [2009-11-07 23:50:17 +0000 UTC]

Right so when you slide it down the blade does it stay there? sorry for so many questions i plan on making Tensa Zangetsu in December and the others I plan to make later are
1. Hyorinmaru
2. Sode No Shirayuki
3. Zangetsu ( Shikai Form )
also i'm a huge fan of swordmaking and think that it should be recognized as a art form
