WELCOME TO THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF MMD EFFECTS!
I am attempting to document every single MMD effect I can find in collections, so that users can easily access a diverse range of effects and know who to credit. I would recommend organising your own effect folder in this way, as you can group updated effects together and keep track of which version belongs to which creator. I make the masterlist, so you don't have to worry!
I hope to draw attention to some lesser-known effects too. Everyone seems to use the same Beamman and ikeno effects, when there are
others that deserve love too. I hope some of these effects will inspire artwork! <3
These collections are sorted in alphabetical order by producer (according to English translations of names), however many producers are known by several names. If you cannot find a creator here, before messaging me, please use the 'Find' tool as described below, and search for their name. I may have listed them underneath a different name
I want to make the MMDC a better place, especially here on DeviantART. So often I see users leave credits out of their works, so the artists behind other artists never get the recognition they deserve. It happens to me, it happens to us all if you make assets, and effect producers get hit the hardest. Render artists often don't think they need to credit effect producers (and while some say you don't need to, it's only polite right? Not only does it help other render artists find the same materials that you use for their own art, but you promote the users that have helped you make yours). With this long-term project I hope to give all MMD users the knowledge of all effect producers so they can be fully credited and appreciated for some of the hardest work in the MMDC. Did you know that original effect creators often need YEARS worth of experience in C++ to give you the effects you need to make your art look amazing? They deserve all the praise in the world!
HOW TO USE THIS COLLECTION
I have painstakingly typed out EVERY SINGLE EFFECT NAME in these collections, so that if you are searching for a certain effect, you can find it immediately. To do this, please either use CTRL+F or go to 'Find' in the top right settings of your browser. This will allow you to type out the name of the effect, and find the creator and exactly where it comes from <3
I have have not provided information about different versions of the effect just yet because that's gonna take up even more time, but you can see in directories such as ikeno's and Elle's when they've updated the effect, please download the most recent version if you want the newest ^^
I have also given the producer's contact information, which usually comes in the form of twitter. Some are very active, others are not, but if you follow them you may get updates about new effects if they tweet about them

PLACES YOU CAN GO TO FIND MMD EFFECTS
DeviantART: Right here! DeviantART is a Western platform, so you will find many effects made from people in the US and Europe here!
Bowlroll: This is a Japanese file-sharing website which you can search tags in order to find assets. Mostly used by Japanese artists, but many Westerners also use it. I use this website as a separation from my dA, and it also gets you recognised by more Japanese artists too!
NicoNico: Kinda like Japanese YouTube, but you can upload images here too! It's a very good place to explore how effects can be used too, as often producers will create an example video of how it can be used
Getuploader: Similar to Bowlroll, except it does not have a search engine. It's similar to MediaFire or SkyDrive, in that individual artists will use it as an archive. You can search through Google however, if you type 'getuploader.com effects'. Producers such as Beamman, ikeno and Elle use this site!
YouTube: YouTube is not very good as a platform for Producers to distribute their effects, as they are video-based only. However, it's a good place to discover new effects, you'll probably just have to download them elsewhere
Twitter: The MMD community is HUGE on Twitter, and it’s the best place for Easterners and Westerners to interact. Many producers will tweet out when they have new assets for download, so I recommend following your favourites to get regular updates!
DEFINITIONS
Environment effects- these are effects that affect the environment, such as effects which mimic the weather in real life, such as Rain or ikPostFog.
Lighting effects- these effects directly affect the lighting outside of the ambient lighting. Effects such as PostPointLight and Spotlight provide a different light source from what comes with the engine.
Particle effects- effects which emit particles, some are environmental like KiraKira and Butterfly, while others are best attached to bones such as Particle_EX.
Post-effect- post effects are .x effects that are applied to the fourth wall of the render, similar to how a filter on Instagram works. The effect is applied across the image.
Self-effect- similar to a shader, however self-effects usually apply a new dimension to the model. These may include effects that make the model look like its on fire, lightening or emits sparkles.
Shader- an .fx effect that is applied to a model or accessory. Shaders often give more definition to a model, or apply a texture to a subset.
Shadow effects- these are effects which affect the shadows of the model and environment. Most of these effects will include the word ‘SSAO’ in the name.
