Description The final assignment for Painting Drama Man.. what a ride it's been. I went back and looked at the first illustration assignment for the course, which I won't even post here, and compared it to this. HNNG so much improvement!

I can honestly say that PD taught me everything I know about composition. At university, the most we got was someone mentioning rule of thirds... yeah.
So I'm looking forward to see what i can do with my newfound knowledge ;D stay tuned.

As with the others, the lighting and composition is really good.
I think I prefere Medusa over the boy here, her pose, hands and details are better. Too bad you didn't work more on the folds on her dress. The directions in the folds becomes a bit messy.
As for the boy, I really like his expression. The pose seems a bit akward, I'm not sure if he's leaning around the pillar or what he's doing.
Oh, about the composition, it's really good, but I think you could have made the boy a bit bigger to show scale better. Or maybe he is really close? Or Medusa is really big? (she's a monster after all)
Nice touch with Medusa feeding her snakes eyeballs, I didn't recognize what it was at first.

Overall very nice! Be proud of yourself for improving so much, and for surviving!

Medusa was the most fun to paint tbh xD so I focused mostly on her. Time constraints D: BUT you right about the clothing folds.. which is weird, because I really like painting folds, but my teacher commented on this and another of my paintings that I haven't structured the folds properly. Need to study!

The scale was a challenge too, at first I wanted her to be really big in comparison, but that just looked like a perspective issue xD so i think you're right, it's probably still confusing!

If I'd had more time though, I would have designed the palace/temple to be more interesting >__< I'm bored by the background in this one *sigh* So I would have made more of a snake design to the interior and then put up some nice statues that medusa made from real people XD

Thank you so much for all the kind and helpful comments <3 feels good to have someone looking out for me and my art, haha!

I know about the scale issue. Maybe it would be easier to show the scale if you could see the boys whole body, because then you would also see the base of Medusas "bed".
But the you would have a totally different composition instead. It's hard.

Maybe you want to go back and add all the nice background details you mentioned? Or just think about it in you next piece when you don't have the time constraints.

I'm always happy to help you, plus it helps me too. So it's a win-win.

Hmm I could go back and add them, BUT I think I'd be even better off redoing the whole picture ^^ as you said, without time constraints, and also without the specific constraints of the assignment (like it had to be black and white, and Medusa had to be in repose, etc.).

Yeah it's truly a win-win <3

If you want to redo it then I say "go for it"!
I'm interested to see what it can look like if you get to do all the things you mentioned.

Terrific! Fantastic detail and emotion on the faces. A bit ghoulish with Medusa feeding one of her snakes an eye ball.

Oh thank you! I posed for the reference myself, which made the facial expressions a lot easier to figure out!
