Betty is still very much alive today, at age 83. She is the widow of bodybuilder and publisher Joe 'Kick Sand in my Face and My Wife Will Beat You Up' Weider (50+ years of marriage).

Some studies credit the ratio of the average of the wide points divided by the narrow point for pushing male buttons (whether we're happy about it or not). Brosmer's ratio was better than 2:1 (with an 18" waist).
Highest ratio I've reconnoitered was in college at a little over 3:2 with a 24" waist and she was CURVY.
I'd be too afraid of breakage with an 18" waist for any reconnoitering.
