I think this piece is very nice! The composition is very good and is very close to the Rule of Thirds. The cropping was very neat!
I think you could improve this piece, however, by being more careful with the lighting. There is a seemingly warm light in the piece as well as light coming in through stained glass windows. In my chapel, this gives a gorgeous effect--seemingly random colours everywhere! People walk around with apparently red or blue hair and it's quite funny. Perhaps add a bit of this effect? It doesn't have to be done throughout, just in bits to give the illusion that it is everywhere. Also, the lighting in this seems very warm in reds and blues, but the girl in the foreground appears to be in blues and purples. Instead of making her stand out with a contrasting colour, which makes the piece seem like two and not one, change either the background or the girl so that they have the same tones in lighting, and then desaturate the background or darken it a little so that the girl is brighter to make her (very subtlely) "pop," as Linda Bergkvist would say.
One tiny detail--the girl's skirt at the bottom has many folds, but is cropped out at a flat edge. I think you should follow the curves of the edge of the fabric instead. Hmm... I justed took a peek at the original--it seems that the edge was relatively straight. Maybe just make the grass more uneven as is the tendency of grass.
Irregularities make paintings much more beautiful than conforming perfection.
Nevertheless, the image is beautiful! I love the idea too!
