Akaashi walked slowly, straightening his tie as he clutched the bouquet tightly. It was today.
It really was today.

Today was the day.

You sat in front of the mirror. Admiring your elaborate hairstyle that had taken hours to arrange. You were excited to say the least. Excited but horribly nervous at the same time.
 “[F/N], are you ready?”

His voice was like a melody to your ears. A voice you would never forget, a voice you could recognize in an instant.

“I’ve been ready since hours ago.”

He walked through the large doors of the wedding hall, startled by the sheer amount of people.

Akaashi had never expected this many people to be there, he was surrounded by faces. Familiar ones and others he had never seen before.

He swallowed, feeling a bitter taste arise in his mouth. A feeling he couldn’t quite pinpoint, one he wasn’t familiar with. It was probably just his nerves acting up, it was a marriage after all.

Akaashi reached his hand out and—

You took his hand gripping it tightly. Already feeling giddy from seeing all the people waiting.

He brushed a stray strand of hair out of your face, fastening it behind the rose pinned behind your ear.

“A rose means eternal love. Does it not?”

You smiled. That was enough of an answer for you.

And as the guests looked on, you stepped foot onto the aisle, hand in hand. Today was the day you were—

Akaashi heard snippets of conversations from the guests all around him.

“I want to get married too!”

“I wonder who’s getting married next.”

“Will I ever get married?”

Marriage. Marry. Married.

The words droned on over and over in his head. Like a mantra that eventually faded into the distance.

That’s right.

It was your wedding day.

You were getting married.

You stared into his eyes admiring their vivid golden hue, observing the emotions that swirled through him. His eyes betrayed his true feelings more than his face ever would.

Love, worry, happiness…

You chuckled, it took long enough for you to get this far and there was no going back, not like either of you wanted to.

It’s really today.

I’m getting married.
 You don’t even hear the wedding prayers, you don’t need to. All you have to say is—

Akaashi watched as you kissed your husband. He smiled. But he didn’t know why he was smiling.

He certainly didn’t feel like smiling.
But he was, and he was clapping as well.

Clapping and smiling as he watched you marry someone else.
Like a mindless puppet putting on a show, swung around by strings someone else controlled.

A metallic taste seeped into his mouth and Akaashi realized that he had somehow bitten his tongue in the process.
 But the sour taste of metal had been there even before.

He still couldn’t pinpoint the feeling.

You were really married now.

You grinned, unable to contain your excitement.

“Kei, I’m going to go talk to my old classmates! I haven’t seen them in a while.”

“Go ahead. Do what you like. I’ll be there in a couple of minutes.”

“What’s wrong Akaashi?”

“It’s nothing.”

“C’mon, you can tell me! I’ll always be your senpai!”

“It’s okay Bokuto-san.”

Akaashi frowned at the prick in his finger and tried to wipe off the crimson splatters of blood that had landed on the flower petals. It didn’t work. If anything he only further smeared the flowers with red. He had forgotten about the bouquet.

I guess this is proof I’m not a puppet.

“I’m going to head out for a second. Excuse me.”

You walked, as fast as one possibly could in a wedding dress.

And then you saw him.

His face had barely changed in the past few years. The same slate grey eyes that popped with tones of green. The same dark hair that curled at the tips. The same expressionless face.

And it was that very expressionless face that stared straight back at you.

“Keiji!”

Akaashi didn’t feel right. He saw you coming, yelling his name excitedly while you fumbled about in that ridiculous dress of yours.

But he didn’t know what to say. The sour taste had accumulated in his throat, as if suffocating him from the inside out, refusing to subside.

So he uttered the first thing that came to mind.

“Congratulations. I’m happy I could be here.”

The first thing that came to his mind, was undoubtedly

a lie.

“Thank you for coming Keiji!”

You were closer now. Close enough to see his eyes clearly. His eyes that were dark, so dark that you couldn’t see anything in them.

“[F/N]-san. Here, these are for you.”

He held out a bouquet of flowers for you. Nothing too fancy. It was just a small bouquet of the same flowers.

“I would never forget.”

This wasn’t a lie. But it tasted bitter just the same.

You clutched the flowers tightly and smiled again.

But it wasn’t the right smile.

“[F/N], there you are.”

You turned around to find yourself looking into Kei’s eyes. His eyes were so bright and golden, you could see that he was happy even through his expressionless face.
