Love all the strokes and details, and the oil painting is just a nice, finished piece.

the background is just awesome, it reminds me of bill jacklin who's one of my favourite artists. now the only advice i'd give is perhaps to make the various tones ont he back a bit more distinct, it looks a bit flat right now, but of course its probably the fact that its a digital photo. the real thing is always so much better

My main question is, "who is this a portrait of?"
As the colors, to me, make it look like Nightcrawler. But I realize thats probably not it.
But anyway, I often dont like being able to see brush strokes except in certain pieces;
this is one. If I myself didnt hate going back to old works, I would say you should finish it.

or just straight paint?

what do you mean an oil layer?

Eat-the-bunny In reply to bullethead [2006-05-04 17:54:36 +0000 UTC]

well when i was doing oil the teacher told me to mix paint with turpentine then less and less until i was mixing the paint with lyn seed oil instead of turpentine... eh i guess its just one way of oil painting.

hmmm... could you describe that to me in a paragraph? i might want to try that.

ive never done anything but acrylic primers, and one or a few layers of oil. and linseed only to thin paint, and turpentine or varsol to wash brushes. ive really had noone teach me anything.
