No, not a new technique - just an oil painting sketch done on location in the outdoors (plein air is just s fancy dancy french expression for painting outdoors on location). Thank you for the compliment Hanna and the faves. It is especially nice to hear from you. Barrie

I like the other one better but since this doesn't have any comments, I'll add here.
Challenging isn't it? What I do find rewarding about the exercise, besides sitting with a cup of coffee besides a waterfall and painting, is brushwork, color theory, and composition are all things I can take back into the studio. I number mine so I can look back on the progression, making notes, and what worked or what didn't.
You might also consider sketching in oil, monochrome scenes, i.e., burnt umber.
If you ever want to hang out and paint beside a stream, let me know.
