Description
Eru is the supreme being, God. Eru is transcendent, and completely outside of and beyond the world. He first created a group of angelic beings, called in Elvish the Ainur, and these holy spirits were co-actors in the creation of the universe through a holy music and chanting called the "Music of the Ainur", or Ainulindall in Elvish.Eru alone can create independent life or reality by giving it the Flame Imperishable. All beings not created directly by Eru, (e.g. Dwarves, Ents, Eagles), still need to be accepted by Eru to become more than mere puppets of their creator. Melkor desired the Flame Imperishable and long sought for it in vain, but he could only twist that which had already been given life
Eru created alone the Elves and Men. This is why in The Silmarillion both races are called the Children of Illvatar. The race of the Dwarves was created by Aule, and given sapience by Eru. Animals and plants were fashioned by Yavanna during the Music of the Ainur after the themes set out by Eru. The Eagles of Manwe were created from the thought of Manwand Yavanna. Yavanna also created the Ents, who were given sapience by Eru. Melkor instilled some semblance of free will into his mockeries of Eru Illvatar's creations (Orcs and Trolls).

Definitely one of your more interesting pieces.
It's certainly not your most colorful, but its the most interesting in that while it is based off another story... it feels like an original piece.
Nice line work.
Excellent poses.
Wonderful use of emotion and shapes to show Picasso-esque emotion.
I especially like your depiction of the godly figure in the middle. She seems like a combination of lady liberty and the personification of justice (the one with the blindfold)
Keep up the good work and I hope you branch out into more epic stories that deserve that same amazing treatment WoW and LOTR got.

Amazing! It's like a stained glass window. I really need to pick up a copy of the Silmarillion.

Absolutely beautiful! It was fun to guess which vala each one was based off of his or her cloathing and surroundings. Well done!

Will there be a print of this sold? Because it is BEAUTIFUL. I would buy like 3 prints for me...and then another 20 for other people.

I can't tell you how much your art has moved me. The Silmarillion is a book I have read countless times, and I've always been enthralled by the creation story in it...it's my favorite bit of Tolkien over everything he's written. To see it represented in such a way....I'm blown away. Literally. I think these pieces are, hands down, the most amazing, thoughtful, creative things I've ever seen. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I can't wait to have some hanging in my home.

Oh, this is beautiful!
I could never quite imagine these scenes... what Eru looked like, what the Valar looked like, what it would look like to watch them sing things into existence together ... wow.

That's probably the most fascinating depiction of Eru I've ever seen in any artwork, and I just adore how the color blue is used so well here.

Tolkien, I suspect, would have been livid, had he ever seen this "Eru", if the story of his rather furious reaction to an overly-feminine depiction of Legolas is any indication.
Additionally, the embryonic proto-edain bears a disturbing resemblance to the protagonist of "Golgo 13", but that's really neither here nor there.

This is beautiful, the only fault I find with it is that it can't actually be made into a real stained glass piece, if someone tried, it would be changed so it can actually be made, as there are some lines that are just not possible to cut in glass.... U__U ..
Oh, but imagine how wonderful it would be in real stained glass...

Top left to top right in the picture, surrounding Eru :
Nienna Lady of Mercy ; Vairë the Weaver (of time) and her husband Namo (Mandos) Judge of the dead and Master of Doom ; Manwë Lord of the Air and "king" of the Valar ; Oromë the Great Hunter ; Varda the Queen of Stars ; Ulmo Lord of Waters ; Aulë the Maker, Lord of the Earth and his wife Yavanna, Queen of the Earth and Giver of Fruits ; Melkor the Dark Lord, first of the Ainur ; Tulkas, Champion of the Valar .

And here I was thinking the person with Namo was Irmo (Lorien), as he is the last of the siblings missing.
Master of Visions, Dreams and 'the Desirer', keeper of the gardens Lorien in Valinor, fairest of places.
And of course the second of the Feanturi, Masters of Spirit.

Me and a few folks over at tumblr are discussing who is who in this picture.
Some are easy guesses, like Nienna and Yavanna, Aule and Ulmo.
Could you enlighten us?

I always am amazed by your work, but I love how you drew the Ainur. Each of them look gorgeous! For a second I thought the two brothers on the left were Death and it's brother Sleep from the Greek Mythology, but then I thought: hey, this is you, so of course it has to be LOTR. And then I figured it was the Ainur

OK, let me guess: Ilúvatar is in the middle of the picture with the Imperishable Flame in his hands and a Man and an Elf below it.
The Valar in the left side, from top to bottom: Nienna, Lórien, Mandos, Oromë, Manwë, and Varda.
The Valar in the right side, from top to bottom: Tulkas, Melkor, Yavanna, Aulë, and Ulmo.
Am I right?
Where are Vána, Nessa, Vairë, and Estë?

LOVE LOVE everything about this image but, more than anything else, the composition and the proportions and the placement of the "tiles" and… well, let's leave it at that. There are little things that I find interesting, such as how the larger shapes come together and create smaller shapes (such as the shield on the center bottom and the pseudo vesica piscis with the human figures under the fire). More than anything, this is one of those pictures that makes me think of stuff like National Treasure with all the mysticism coming off it. In a good way. Again, I love it.

Counterclockwise:
Nienna, Irmo and Namo, Mandos, Manwe and Varda, Ulmo, Aule, Yavanna, Este... and Tulkas or Orome?
Also I was intrigued by the fact that you made Eru (as evidenced by the Secret Fire) a feminine presence.
