Couldn't say, from what little I know Icelanders used turf as extra insulation to compensate for their lack of trees & wood resources. At least from a historic standpoint, when nowadays I'm sure they can import as much wood as they want, and taking measures to plant a whole lot of new trees. Otherwise it appears this church was originally constructed in 1884: www.atlasobscura.com/places/ho…
