My great-great uncle died in Italy in 1944. This sort of reminds me of him (even though I never met him.)

Well, even if he was in the wrong party ( from the POV today ), he´s part of the family. And WWII is also part of the history.

Hmmm i see from all the comments in here, many of their great grandfather or their relatives died in the ostenfront. and great grandfather too.

Sad, but true. I have had family members on my German side who were lost in the war. One of which, was ar Stalingrad.
