Description
Meet Galileo! He is a large, wooden creature built around the heart of powerful LED planetarium capable of projecting 60,000 stars at once!
He stands around 26" tall, 25" deep and 36" wide and is made from an Elm tree felled in Lincolnshire, UK around 7-8 years ago. He is a fully posable character, with around 30 working joints and is made up of well over 200 individual parts.
The planetarium is supplied with 2 interchangeable glass slides, (more are available from 3rd party suppliers) one with the star systems highlighted and annotated and one with the stars alone. It supports both clockwise and anti-clockwise star rotation and optional shooting stars! It has an adjustable focus ring attached to the jaws on the front of Galileo's head.
He also goes to sleep after 15, 30 or 60 minutes if you ask him nicely.
Here are the physical specs of Galileo's heart:
• 60,000 stars
• Ultra-bright 3-watt white LED technology
• Projector: 16.7 x 15.9 x 15.1 cm,
• Projection screen: ceiling, wall or other plane white surface
• Projection distance: 150-230cm
• Projection area: circle with 270 cm in diameter
2 Realistic discs of northern hemisphere with and without constellations included.
Galileo is a prototype, and there is only one other in existence. As it stands, I have no plans to make another one in the near future as he is such a complex and involved piece with well over 40 hours of work in each.
Here's a link to my other post, showing him in action (back2root.deviantart.com/art/E… )

Very nice work. Looks like you have been creating items from wood for some time and enjoy it. I'd guess you push yourself to finish a project just so you can get started on the next. I love woodworking.

Thank you! The design stages took quite a long time, but he came together surprisingly quickly - especially considering he's made up of 277 wooden parts!
