And then Delibird flies in and both Empoleon and Eiscue agree that the other isn't as lame as, well, Delibird.

Yeah, they weren't very imaginative when they came up with that Pokemon.

I never had a problem with Klefki, so I feel some sort of authority when I say that Eiscue disturbs me in how much it literally looks like a real world penguin with an ice-cube for a face.
And if they had allowed us to customize it like Furfrou as your ingenious comic would otherwise suggest, I think I wouldn't quite despise it.
As it stands, thanks for, at the very least, giving us a pleasant what-if scenario.

I mean, Eiscue's name is a pun on "ice cube". If you can change it's head into various shape or form, it doesn't related to it's name anymore. Might as well call it "Eisculpt" (Sculp from sculpture). Sure it's sounds cool to have a function to design it's head, but there is a reason for the Pokemon's design has some correlation to it's name or it's typing.

Your statement is correct.
But just because a pokemon has a certain name, that doesn't mean that its design must be so extraordinarily mediocre, and does not mean that the first name chosen isn't allowed to be changed from the start before a design to fit the name is done either.

True, but if you look at it's Japanese name γ³γͺγͺγγ (KΕrippo), it's a combination of two words of ζ°· (kΕri) for ice and η«ζΉΒ (rippΕ)Β for cube. Which still means ice cube. Even if name isn't the first chosen for the design, you need a better name to come up with to fit in with the Pokemons design, vice versa as well.

Again, you are correct, but I still stand by my original comment that this thing looks like a regular penguin that someone lazily put a cube of ice on, and if this is the kind of quality of pokemon we can expect from GameFreak when they are supposedly spending their time making brand new HD assets to the point where they can't be bothered to bring around every pokemon in the past, I would like to see better than what was given.
Still, in fairness, my taste of aesthetics does color my statement. But, if some accent on the body itself had been present like some flat square ice at the edge of the top flippers (like ice fans or what have you), it would at least give the appearance of being, well, more thought out as a design (i.e. make the block head look less incongruous with the rest of its body). Or, they could have given it better idle animations to give it more of a personality in game. Either of these things could have increased the chances of endearing this particular pokemon to me.

I can see why it looks like a regular animal. But, there a lot of Pokemon that looks like a regular animal such Meowth, Mudbray, Scoutland, Goldeen, Pidgey, Krabby, Wooloo and Pidove. Even then, there are design that are lazier then Eiscue, such as Diglett, Luvdisc, Ditto, Magnemite, Voltorb, Klink, etc.
This isn't bad quality design from GameFreak, it's just that you have a subjective taste of the design. Another thing I like to point out is that it also has an idle animation which it struggling to hold its head up and almost fall.
I can understand you don't like it's simple design, but like I've said, it's subjective. However, just because one pokemon design is bad doesn't mean all future quality of Pokemon is bad as well.
One more thing, just because they can't bring back every old Pokemon doesn't mean they couldn't, even they have the asset for it. They just focused on many new things they wanted to implement and improved certain old mechanics that takes a lot of their time. We can't judge them for that since we don't know how their process works.

Quite true, it is a simple design, though I personally hold no animosity towards simple designs, to wit, my current favorite water pokemon is Pyukumuku. My bigger problem with this particular one is that I feel like the design is too incongruous for its own good. The cube detracting from the general roundness of the rest of the body. Like, even if it was only so much as tweaking the body itself and making it plumper, it wouldn't look so ... off to me.
Though, as you well noted, liking or disliking any pokemon's design is a matter of personal, subjective taste, regardless of how well one is able to describe that feeling.

I wonder why that's not a feature. The ice isn't even physically connected to the Pokemon. My only problem with it might be the vibrations would give the Pokemon a headache at least and a concussion at most...
