Great photo of a tough art. My hair would probably catch if I set my poi on fire. Kudos on being brave enough to play with kevlar and flammables!

Heh, thanks! If I take too much time off I really get 'the fear' back, but once you build a relationship with fire it is really empowering to dance with.

I can only imagine. I've been playing second to a fire dancer for some months, and it's remarkable to watch that kind of barely contained power.

Such a great image! Kudos to whoever captured the "Maiden of the Flame" here, and kudos to you of course for playing with fire so well!
I've got plenty of room to practice--one of these days I need to try this!

and i'm not even coordinated enough to light chanukah candles, it's so not fair!
how did you learn to dance with fire?

LOL!
I learned from online forums and such mostly, I started at homeofpoi.com and went through their tutorials and forums to learn poi. After many months of practice poi I started slowly with lit wicks just doing the moves I was really comfortable with. After that I was more comfortable with the fire so I started trying out other toys like torches and fans.

... I used to have a terrible fear of fire.
I still respect the flame, but fire dancing has been great therapy for me.
