I really love this piece. ♥ Great focus. And, reading down, I quite like your ideas behind including the cross-hairs.

That 1-6-1 pattern of plusses and the 1-6-1 (1) of the shadows really makes this
composition distinct from others in this genre. The focal plane changes right at the
line of plusses, and it creates an oddly arresting effect. I look up at the blurred
half of the photo, and then the typical thing would be for my eye to come all the
way down, but the plusses stop my eye right in the middle and sort of make them
go <---- ----> following the configuration of the plusses and the direction of the
shadows. The sum of the effect, I realized after a moment, emulates the flow of
the waves that left this pattern in the first place. Fluxus (both mind and nature).

Ah, yes; I'm glad that you're able to pick up on some of the layers of symbolism in this capture. It's one of those that all came together rather seamlessly; and in general it's a style that I had originally planned to pursue when I first started with photography; I had always meant to include imagery over the top of my work - whether that be with images or words. The idea got lost somewhere along the way, but I certainly intend to experiment with it further in future.
Thank-you for the highly detailed and interesting comment; I appreciate the time you've taken to look at my work.

That's good to read; I wasn't sure about adding elements to my work. It was my original plan to mostly dabble in mixed-media when I first started out, but it got lost somewhere along the way.

great shot - love how the focus from the individual sad grains gives way to the overall texture and patterns!

Whats with the plusses across the picture plane?

I felt I needed to add something to the compositions in post-production; it's a style I have been meaning to experiment with for some time. The cross-hairs are to move the scenes further from regular perception, and also to introduce some number symbolism to the conceptual narrative; a sense of the unknown and a vision of discovery.
