Description
Second dragon of the year!Did this one to practice illustrating lava and also because I like drawing dragons! I had to use references for the lava and lava rocks because I never tried to illustrate those ones before, so it was a big challenge putting all those details in the picture! As for the dragon, the idea of his spikes and the shape of the head comes from the bearded dragon, I thought those elements could be good for a lava dragon. And finally the name lava dragon is because part of his body is made from liquid and solidified lava.
Even if it's not as perfect as I would like it to be, I'm still really proud of the result. I took my time to make all the details in the dragon and the background and it paid off in the end!
The illustration was done with markers and colored pencils. It took maybe around 20 hours to do.

I really like it, I read the description too. <3 I do the same thing when prepping for a project<3 One thing I can recommend... and its tiny; because the art is amazing and there's not much too say...
You could put Bubbles in the lava, another thing the bubbles would do besides add detail is allow you to create depth.
Do this by making the bubbles that are further back smaller then the closer bigger
Sry if you weren't seeking a critique I just felt it ya know

Actually I'm quite happy that you made this critique because I really want to get better! It is really welcome! Thank you!
Depth is what I thought was missing in my illustration. I like your idea of adding big bubbles closer and smaller ones further back! I'll try it!

Thank you so much! I'm really happy you like my art style!
I used to do mostly digital work, but recently I tend to go more with traditional because I can't stay more than 30 minutes in front of my computer. I wear glasses and the computer screen makes my eyes sore after a while.
I also prefer traditional work because it offers a lot more challenge since you can't just ctrl+z your errors, you have to find a way to use them in your illustration!

Bang on!
that's why I make a dragon a week. it keeps me sharp!
compared to the professional field where ctrl-z is the average designers best friend
BTW I consider myself an artist before a designer. In fact I'd rather say I'm an artist who offers design services
Keep up the good work I cant wait to see more from you!
