Description After so many long days sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, there is a harbor where sailors from all around the world stop and take a few days to check equipment and just relax. Historically the port of Horta has been a meeting point for people with a passion for the sea. Having a passion means sharing experiences, emotions and hopes. This is the spirit, and from that spirit an artistic and picturesque communication tool was createdβ€”the paintings of Horta.

There are thousands of paintings through the old and new marine walls, sidewalks, trash bins...everywhere. It's possible to feel that message between colours and words, painted by someone who wants to tell the world about his wonderful experience. The paintings show funny animals, strange gods, unbelievable maps, creatures from dreams, marine monsters and it's impossible to make a complete list. Often we can read the crew's names and their date of departure. Sometimes they have been sailing for years.

Legend says that one who doesn't leave a painting on Horta walls won't reach their destination.

Thank you!

The clouds and the mountain make for a pleasing background which however does not take focus away from the artwork which is meant to be the focus of this capture. The artwork in the foreground provides interest due to the variety of shapes and colour.

The description provides context on why the artwork is here and explains why there is so much of it.

The only suggestion that I could possibly make was if the top part of the sky above the clouds could be cropped as it does not really impact upon the scene. The clouds and the mountain are very good but the generally empty sky at the top does not appear to contribute anything.

Great story and great picture! I've personally never seen this but there's something similar to this in Alaska for the sailors of the Pacific

Thank you very much! Interesting to know there is a similar practice somewhere in Alaska. Actually, sailors are notoriously superstitious...
