Most likely it has to do with aesthetic composition. Β You could have used the golden ratio to pull the eye to the subject; he looks a little odd placed there in the middle as well. I suggest lookingΒ here Β for more information.

i've read your critique and i only have one question, why you don't like that the wolf is in the center of the image? how do you like it to be ?Β

it usually makes the shot interesting and more dynamic when the wolf is a bit to the side

Rule of thirds is nice, but it's not a dogma. In case of symmetric picture, like this one, creating empty space on one side usually just leaves the viewer wondering "wtf?" rather then finding the picture dynamic. A lot of photographers takes rules too literally.

like i do, i'm crazy about symmetry and sometimes i take those rules too literally when i create my scenes

True but in this case I wanted to show how much it blends into the surface
but no offense taken, usually I prefer to have animal at the side too

I think this is an absolutely perfect capture!Β What a beautiful creature!Β I love wolves and feel that they perform a much needed control of rodent population that most people overlook.Β Many are hunted and killed simply because they simply ARE, you know?Β To me that is so wrong, no matter what the species is.Β This photo has a wonderful sense of balance and I love the sense of stillness of the wolf.Β I love this, Petra!Β

Oh, he definitely wasn't bored he was playing with his mother before, then he realized I was near the fence, so he lied down and started to watch me, carefully
he was just curious

Aww, just look at those ears. So fluffy! I want to pet them.
Really beautiful shot. The earthy colours and the light is so peaceful. The wolf looks a bit sleepy too. Very lovely.
