Is that what you got from the picture? I know we all have our own interpretations of art, but damn. I immediately felt it was saying that we expose too much to our american youth. And/Or kids today grow up to fast.

The picture is about violence, not about race.

I come from a pretty shitty ghetto. I got out, but I never forget it and always want to spread the word on what it is like. This is one of the single greatest pieces I have ever seen. I must own a print, I feel this one in my heart. It's worth is more than paltry words.

You know I was going to say something amongst the line of "You've been living in LA for too long", but I saw a comment underneath that asked who this boy was, and you posted in reply with a link. I do wonder, in reality this is just a poor boy that apparently has some sort of skin condition, turned into this art piece that makes me feel like "it's just another day in Los Angeles", why? Why use this particular boy? No critiques or selfish thoughts, just curiosity that leads me to ask why?
On the other hand, you went through the trouble of giving him pants, and shoes which look quiet natural on him so it looks neat and well interpret. The grunge looks great, gives the feel of Alex's work to it, the colors are well executed as well.. and does it say "Daily Prizes" at the bottom right?

This piece is such an attention grabber!
I'm glad RawesomePossum questioned you because I felt the kid had a Uganda quality to him (Thomas the Train shirt seems to fit him, but the pistol is the forced part that is more symbolic of his circumstances)

Unfortunately little tommy here will eventually grow up to be "Tank" or some other moniker to that effect. I've been a fan of alex for awhile and it still makes me stop and just stare and wonder about your process. Excellent! I'm curious as to your inspiration for this paticular young man. Did you see him somewhere or is he from a photo? Reason I ask is the emotion you can see in his eyes speaks volumes to his identity.

The kid is named Axum. He's a little boy from Uganda, and you can read about him here if you want. Rest assured he does not own a pistol in real life, at least that I know of. Cheers!

It's SO rare to see actually meaningful pieces on DA that I literally stopped everything and stared for a while.
