Great Gallery, very superb pen/ink work. I actually prefer the bland b/w single-subject drawings of aircraft which are very difficult to find so kudos to you for adding to that kiddie pool.

Many thanks. I liked the pen and ink venue and wanted one when I was in pilot training until I saw the price. Then I said, "I think I can do that." I'm trying to get started again after a bit of a layoff.

I wish I could do pen/ink but I'm good with b/w pencil and thats it.

You say "when I was in pilot training", so you are an pilot? If so what do you fly?

I usually put together a pencil sketch and then ink it with details and shading. Makes for good cramps in the knuckles!

I flew F-4s in the 80s for 10 years in the Air Force then went to the Guard where I flew F-15s for 15 years. I'm now a contractor with the Air Force.

Thats outstanding, its always nice to meet someone who does/did my dream job.

Your art is great, but I have to ask how did you get the shape/perspective right on your planes?

I think the perspective is what really makes the artwork in aviation art. Get it wrong and it just doesn't impress. Since I can't do it from memory or just out of the blue I work from detailed photographs. It's very time consuming but worth it. Of course once you start using the pen there's no using the eraser so it's pretty much set.
Now all I have to do is make the time to get some more done!

Thanks for the favorites. My Jaguar is seldom ever looked at so I appreciate it. Love your Rhino especially. Great gallery too.

...by the way, I actually got a ride in an F-4F a long time ago. That was before I flew D's, E's and G's for a living.

Cool! I loaded bombs on D's and E's for awhile. (I was an aircraft armament tech i.e. bomb loader for twenty years).

Thanks. I'm still trying to find the best way to image my work. They're too large for a scanner. Any hints?

I know exactly what you mean. Mine are always too large for the scanner bed as well. I eventually learned to scan my drawings in overlapping sections. Then, using my imaging software, I crop and merge everything together. The tough part is having to match the contrasts and brightnesses. Feel free to send me a note anytime. We can swap e-mail addresses and I'll be happy to offer anymore help.
