You have some amazing portraits! I have just put aside my very first real attempt until I can figure out how not to make my niece look like a monster. Any advice?

Hi Lisa:
I guess I would have to say first of all "Persevere". Don't give up. At different stages my drawings don't look right either. I look at my work in the mirror alot. I can see shapes better that way, and fix them. Also I like to take black and white photos as i go along to try to correct my tonal values. It's amazing how much you can really see in a little thumbnail! I also like to view my progression in a low light because again, I can seem to pick out problems that way. Turning it upside down and sideways also. I hope this helps you Lisa.

I photograph my work as it progresses, helps me like the mirror thing helps you. Almost like seeing through someone else's eyes.I just took 2 books on pastel portraits out of the library, I'm determined that this is just not gonna beat me!

thanx for the favourtie. I really enjoyed your landscapes I can see why they call you pastelkathy. Your attention to detail draws me in and your understanding of colour and nature solidifies my interest. I'm curious, do you create your landscapes on sight, do you take a picture, or do you make them up in your mind?

thank-you so much for your note. I do the paintings from phtographs that I have taken. I would love to have the talent to be able to do them from my mind; because I have a millions paintings in my head!!
