well, there are lots of useful tutorial even on Deviant Art. U can search them easily, or, you can get some books from book store.
talk a bout tips, just remember always use more than one color on a same part.

Ability = The Stand MayDay is an automated stand which is beyond the stand user Nigel's control. This Stand Mayday consists of few 1/100th scale mini jet fighters that will provide air support to the stand user himself. Since this is an automated stand, Stand user Nigel do not has the ability to control them. However, the stand Mayday will react based on the user's emotions. The greater fear he has, the heavier air support they provide (heavy firing, air bombing etc). The stand user Nigel later had his stand MayDay ability evolve, adding a huge 1/5th scale of floating airship which not only launch mini jet fighters but as well as providing homing missiles support.
