Mike-Ryuluce [2015-03-25 00:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Excuse me, but I'm working on my RSA system (I'm building one myself in java).
And I've seen that you know a lot about crytography.
I've already generated a key pair in decimal.Β
And I would like to ask you how I need to format them. I see RSA keys always written in certain ways, but I don't know what the standard is. And I don't want to use someone else's program.
I'm not sure how the structure works, and I would like to know how I can do it myself.
Like where I can find the source code for the conversion or how the conversion works so I can build the code myself.
If you know where I can learn about this that'd be good too.

Most of the time keys are encoded in HEX or base64. The most common one is the PEM format which is:
-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
some base/Radix64 stuff here
-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

-----BEGIN PUBLIC KEY-----
more of the same here
-----END PUBLIC KEY-----

Here is a wiki entry that can provide some info on this format and the HEX format too: www.cryptopp.com/wiki/Keys_and… (Note this is in c++)

Mike-Ryuluce In reply to l33tn3rdz [2015-03-25 00:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Okay, so how do you write the modulus and the exponent together?
for example (using the example on wikipedia) say you have a modulusΒ CA1 and an exponent 11 (both of these I converted to hexadecimal)
-----BEGIN PUBLIC KEY-----
CA1/n
11/n?
-----END PUBLIC KEY-----
That's sort of the main thing I'm wondering.
I had seen that wikipedia already, but I don't really know C++. Anyways, I don't want to use a function to convert a text document anyways. I'm trying to figure out how it works manually so I can do some string manipulation in Java.

Are you using javax.crypto?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mike-Ryuluce In reply to l33tn3rdz [2015-03-25 01:50:42 +0000 UTC]

The program I used to generate myΒ personal keys, the one's I'm not posting right now, I made myself.
I made a program that calculates the modulus and exponent for each of the keys.
It's really quite simple, and I don't really know anything about the javax.crypto library. So no, I am not using it.
I did make use of the math library for the BigInteger functions.
Here's the basic code for the main program (the final version is longer, but only cause it includes some extra options)
sta.sh/010xwsxj8qsq
I used this to generate a private and public key's modulus and exponent with two prime numbers of 2048 bit length for the starting numbers.
I'm looking at the documentation for the javax.crypto library, and I'm pretty lost. I'm not really sure what classes would help, and how to actually use them. If it would make my program better to move to using primarily that library, I would appreciate any advice.
In fact, here's my public key as I have it now (in hexadecimal form):Β sta.sh/01qstj0wa3be
I hope you see why I don't get how the key is supposed to formatted.
