Can i just say, woah? I noticed some people on Youtube using animated images and investigated and holy mother of Celestia. What you do is just so amazing, your animations are seriously eye candy. I could sit and watch one all day.
I do have a question though, can you only animate MLP pictures?
(Also i was wondering if your commissions or requests were open. Just wondering.) :3

Oh ok, you're welcome! I only asked cause I wondered if the same could be done to say, pictures of dragons. But yeah I just love how smooth they look. Would you have a problem if I used them in some of my edits/PMVs? I'd obviously give you credit, but i figured i'd ask first. Not sure how many people bothered to do that before using em, but I am x3

I was wondering if you could teach me how to do this with programs you got? or is there any guides that I could take a look at because I do want to animate some of MLP works out there that I think deserves some attention.

It's always so epic and detailed, which makes it challenging to animate. I've started animations of a few of Huussii's pieces, only one ever got close to finished. I actually have it sitting around, I was never happy enough with it to hit the 'publish' button...

I use photoshop and Adobe After Effects, are you familiar with either of those programs? unfortunately they're so broad I wouldn't be able to teach you how to use them, but if you already are able to use them on some level I could show you in what ways I use them.Β

Feel free to dumb it down as much a s needed, but how do you animate a static image. Especially so well? I understand the simple way is to have that weird wave animation of the image, but you obviously don't do that, adding effects and even moving whole parts of the body. Do you cut out the wing then just "animate" it with software? If so how do you keep the background behind the wing since i highly doubt that was always drawn, nor that you always have the source layers if they where. Extremely curious.

I have two main styles. For a lot of animation you can get away with the wavy/smeary method and overlay some things to make it look more complex. A good example are these ones, which are done in one layer. Notice that none of the moving pieces overlap. The fanciest they get is lighting effects superimposed over top.Β
For the fancier ones, I either crop and cut and paste pieces into their own layers, or was given access to the layered originals. Examples are these:
Most of the time though, I have to fake it and make at least some of my own layers to fill in the gaps. Most artists don't paint their characters with animation in mind, and don't bother drawing things overlapped by other pieces. You can see on this next one for example, that I forgot to create the missing purple highlights on the left hind leg where the tail used to overlap:Β

I actually had to rip this one completely apart, because the body and hair were each all in one layer. So I have to make my own painting anywhere something overlapped. Most of my animations have at least a half dozen pieces in them that I had to paint myself.Β

Heya there, i would love to post some of your awesome artwork on Equestria Amino credited, with links of course...sadly, however, when you try to do so. All you get is Error, keeps saying your pictures are too big mainly the GIFs. What a shame. I really want others to see the pictures

I figured out the problem, it is because your animated Art is above 10MB and the amino can only accept under 10MB
That's sad though, people on the amino would love this!
