No problem bud. I stumbled across it reading your views on fanart and I agree with most all of what was said lol. Sorry to hear someone had to ruin it with a death threat though. Deviantart is mainly comprised of 13 year olds which would explain alot about there being too much fanart. I started with Happy Tree Friends when I first joined this site.

Np though finally finished the first Painting! scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hp… just now realized the spear was short....anyway it was mainly about values and to NOT focus on details...which I failed horribly at and went over the hour mark to focus on details till I made myself stop lol.

did you do the original sketch? if so it's awesome, and good start! i'd focus next after value on getting porportions  down. (it's a tricky thing that even i struggle with) but it's good practice. this looks great!

The original sketch? The one on the left is the original by Frank Franzetta, I did the one to the right. Also you're right I do need to work on proportions and having them side by side I notice the little things that don't line up which would explain why some parts felt awkward while doing it. Weirdest thing I have trouble doing proportions with? A person simple standing still looking at you lol.

sames but gesture drawing helps if you do a careful measured gesture. have you ever drawn a blind contour? (it sounds like torture and it basically is but helps a tonne)

Blind contour? Maybe. But explain it because it might be something I've done but never heard referred to that way. but yeah I do gesture drawings but haven't lately. This was my first assignment and I got 19 more art pieces to replicate. Going to be awhile lol

Lol blind contour is literally only looking at the object you are drawing and never at your page, don't lift your pencil or stylus just keep going and catch as much detail as possible. The more you do it and slow down your hand the more like the object your drawing will look. It's to teach you to see what's in front if you. It's really good as a warm up

okay go to ctrlpaint.com (i think that's the website) but Matt Kohr an awesome concept artist does a bunch of traditional and digital tutorials and they are all for free there's like easily a hundred.
