You're welcome. I really like the whole idea of you doing an underpainting in blue or other color. What did you learn in Italy? I've never painted or done much stuff in color. And check out my new work. Thanks.

Yeah, colored underpaintings can make a huge difference in the final look of your painting. Italy was more about painting as much as I could as quick as I could from life. I didn't really learn so much as I just got better at seeing. I will check your works out right now!

Oh nice. I've never painted at all. It sounds really interesting doing under paintings and how you paint. You should explain more about the process, and you should explain more about the process. Drawing from life is amazing. I don't know what is about it too. I drew from life this past semester and makes you better at looking and things an in away drawing from imagination. I think it's even more fun than drawing from pictures. Also, I also draw faster and more effecient because of that.

Well, depending on if you prefer drawing and drafting or just attacking what you are working on should help you decide whether you should use an underpainting or not. Most of my life paintings do not have an underpainting. They are painted directly on a prepared white surface. But, when I feel like I want more perfection or something more structured, I will do an underpainting. Underpainting, at the least the way I do it, is basically just drawing with paint. Also, if you take color theory classes, you can learn to use different colors for your underpaintings to more fully emphasize or dull specific colors in the final painting.
Yeah, I haven't done anything from a photo in years. Photos flatten things and focus in ways that our eyes cannot possibly focus. This is unrealistic. Besides, what's the point of painting something if you already have a photo of it. No, I recommend photos as practice for becoming familiar with the tools only.

For sure man. Any time. You're art is pretty epic. I love it. I've never seen anything like that and I'm super picky with art and stuff. Do you have a name for your style and give me some tips on painting. I don't know how to paint or anything. I want to start.

I wouldn't say I have a name for my style, but I usually like to amalgamate cartoon, with surrealism, and cubism. I wouldn't really know what to give you tips on with painting over the internet, but I'd say be patient, realize that you can always correct yourself with painting. And don't be worried how it looks as you're doing it. You might not even like it once you're done. But let it sit for a while and don't get discouraged.

Well, your style is pretty amazing. I've never seen anyone with that keep it up and move on forward. I'll try painting some time as soon I try other experiments and stuff with drawing. I guess no matter what the medium is there will always be the weird looking stage.

When placing shadows and lighting in stuff do you actual know how shadows work or you do it unconciously? I've seen some classmates and myself do it unconsciously but I want to learn if there is a logic behind shadows.

oh..itΒ΄s very difficult to answer you, because my english is very bad...so..letΒ΄s try:
I know how shadows work and during painting or drawing I pay much attention to where the light comes and make the shading accordingly.
As a result all objects in the work has the same shading. I learn much from special literature and draw it then ... So, practice a lot!
Hope, i could help you...much success!

Happy New Year!
I have always drawn ... I'm one of those people who drew as a kid and didn't stop ... so I can't say when or how I started as such. The best advice I can give you is to pick up a pencil and find some paper and just draw what ever comes into your head ... doodle everyday ... Next, Always look at your own work critically. Every drawing I do is full of mistakes ... I learn from each drawing and try and do better the next time. If you draw every day, you will soon develop your own style and your skills will improve. And lastly, try and really look at things to see their shapes and importantly, the shapes of the spaces around things ... There are also all sorts of shadows and highlights that you don't normally see. Once you can see things clearly, you can draw them.
Good luck!

What do you mean see shapes and space around things? I mean, I haven't practiced enough at the moment. I'll admit that first. But I have ideas of how to create a new style. My own style. Never before seen.

SalHunter In reply to byaccidentgot101 [2011-01-11 00:09:27 +0000 UTC]
Your style will be never have been seen before, it will be your own!
You can draw something by either drawing the shape or defining the shape by the space around it ... the two should be the equivalent of the boundary between the shape and its surroundings but sometimes it is difficult to see ... you just have to keep drawing and it will all fall into place!
