Thanks.
I never really played that much with clay because I only had access to Plasticine and that stuff sucks in my opinion. It is way to mushy.
Monster clay is pretty cool. It is almost rock hard at room temperature and I'm finding that it can be smoothed and textured with alcohol.
Working with clay is pretty different from carving. I don't know if it is easier or harder, I simply haven't done enough. I'm having fun with it, so I guess that is all that counts.
I really like carving and what I'm trying to do is use the clay as a "rough sketch" so that I work out the composition and get the shapes and flow down before I commit to a block of wood. I did a little of that with the Wyrm marionette that I carved and it worked for me. I've got a couple of blocks of wood with awesome grain that I really want to sink my knives and chisels into.
Plus, my wife wants some something that I've created cast in bronze. Clay may be the easiest way to achieve that. She has found a foundry that will cast the torso I carved and she claims that there are a couple of people who are interested in purchasing it as a bronze. We'll see....
BTW, I like your work. I've added you to my watch list also.

Thanks.
Yeah, it has been a very long time between posts.
I have a puppet that is mostly done, but I haven't had time to work on it. Need to make some time.

You´re most welcome.
Ih that sounds interesting indeed. May you tell here what puppet it will become,
or shall this remain as a surpise? ^^

I have a youtube profile under the name of PuppetGuyVanHorn. I show one or two of the puppets moving. Nothing too spectacular.

I had to google this, since I grew up without a television. Oddly enough, I still don't have one. Strange. My kids haven't seen an episode of Sesame Street and yet they are still OK.
There is a video of the interior of the puppet here: www.sesamestreet.org/parents/b…
It doesn't look like they move the trunk that much. From what I was able to research, they use their arm to move the sleeve/trunk.
If you want it to move around internally and can not use your arm to do so, I think that I would use a series of disks separated with hollow tubes. Think old fashioned plastic jump rope handles. I'd run a rope through the centers.
I'd use three control ropes attached to a cloth helmet, which would translate my head movement to the trunk.
I"ve attached a drawing from my stash.
