My biggest tip would be to get a 50mm f1.8 lens. At the moment they are only about AU$150! The lower the f number, the faster your lens can shoot in low conditions. Also I would suggest playing with higher ISOs.

Many gig photographers suggest that you should be shooting around ISO800. However I tend to shoot ISO400 if I can get away with it, because I hate the noise my camera gives in higher ISO conditions.

To remedy noise you can get software like Noise Ninja or Neat Image. I am yet to play with this type of software.

Um besides that, I guess other tips would include shoot in Shutter priority on your camera. For folk style singers (musicians not moving much), you could get away with 1/60sec shutter. For crazy ass punk/emo/ fast moving bands you might have to stretch as far as 1/250sec shutter speed.

Now all this depends on how much lighting you have to play with. My biggest tip though is NO FLASH! I have only used my speedlight twice. This is when it was ABSOLUTELY neccessary. And also when I used it, I only used it as second-curtain, so i could still capture the natural colours from the gig.

Phew, ok that was a bit of a rant. If you dont kow what some of these terms mean search them on google. Google has many of your answers.

And anyway good luck
