I dont know ? try a wood burner or hot metal thing from a fire,
maybe see if there is a woodburner club in your town , like most things i think its just a matter of starting
carving knives , carving club , most cities probably have someone who can show you things, or carving clubs ect.

if you want to make wood burning stuff, i guess you need a fire and some metal implements or a decent wood burning kit and start experimentin with it ! as for carvings you might want to start looking for chisels, i like to buy everything second hand so i find old chisels online or at antique. which carvings where you refering too ? the small ones ?
