Not much that you probably haven't already heard, but make sure you have plenty of patience. It's a very competitive job- a lot of companies generally hire freelancers for the initial stage of production and that's it. Not always the case though.

As for actually getting a job, you need to know all the fundamentals (anatomy, lighting, colour theory etc) as well as being able to work fast. It's also useful to have a good range of images as well as art styles as it makes you more flexible for different projects.

Be tough but fair on your own work- when the time comes to send out your portfolio only choose about 10 of your very, very best images. And try to make sure they're relevant to the job your applying for. You could have some really cool cartoon images but it won't get you far if the job calls for something realistic.

Get a nice website that's free of advertisements if possible and is easy to look through and quick to load. Here you can put more art up in case a potential employer wants to see more of your stuff. I find it's useful to have a section dedicated to life drawing.

On top of everything else, keep drawing! You'll get knock backs and it might effect your confidence. Lord, I know this from experience- but make sure you keep at it - improve then try again. Soon enough you'll land something!
