I've always heard about the possibility of a new Nintendo themed area opening in Universal Studios (presumably to replace the Marvel themed area of Islands of Adventure because of Disney), but I was under the assumption that it would be more than just Mario. But maybe this is just for the theme park in Japan.

Not aside from revisiting older cartoons and purchasing them for personal streaming on Amazon. I do want to take the time to look at Klaus and the new Green Eggs and Ham cartoon on Netflix (and Matt Groening's new cartoon Disenchantment), but obviously since these are all Netflix exclusives I'm going to have to take the time to figure out setting up an account first.

One thing was the message. I went and watched a few scenes and it just seems like it's going to be another "be good, share, be nice, do good things for others" Christmas movie, which is SO ridiculously overtly played out. We get it: it feels good to share, give to others. "The Town That Santa Forgot" gave us this message ten fold.
And even then, the message is kind of contradictory: "be nice to others"--such a sweet, soft message until you realize one scene has the postman Jesper (who is meant to be the hero, by the way) manipulate and lie to a "bad" child that he'll be on Santa's "naughty list" if he doesn't stop throwing snowballs(?).
The art style was what turned me off most of all, ironically. The literal meshing of 2D and 3D animation was off-putting to me. The character designs looked strange. The film MOVES beautifully, but it LOOKS just...weird.
I usually associate Christmas with feeling happy and jovial, not sentimental and smothering. I might give the whole movie a try one day if I have the time, but for now it's not really on my radar.

The thing about why the movie looks the way that it does is that Sergio Pablos felt that the look of hand-drawn animation needed to evolve somehow in order to be made relevant again against all of today's CGI animations, which is obviously what his goal was with this movie and what they were going for with all the added shading and stuff. I personally don't feel that 2D was ever the real problem to begin with (just the misconceptions of greedy, short-sighted studio executives needing to scapegoat an entire medium for being the reason why ___ animated film didn't make enough money), so I've always found this movie's visual approach to be subjective and not a real necessity, but I do have to appreciate the amount of effort that they clearly put into this and in keeping the art form alive at all.
So whether or not this film's visual style is completely necessary, I still think that all the positive reception this movie has gotten is a very good thing for hand-drawn animation either way.

Yeah, I'm glad to know that Klaus is being received so well. It's the kind of shot in the arm that hand-drawn animation has desperately been needing after Disney selfishly went back on reviving their own and choosing to neglect it (this movie coming from one of their former animators, no less). I just want to see what sort of influence the impact of this movie is going to have over the Disney studio now.

I see you're very passionate about 2D animation and that's awesome. With that said, I've heard a lot of horror stories about you and your problems. I'm not trying to agonise you, but I would really appreciate it if you would try to talk to people with opposing points of view in a calm and peaceful manner instead of blocking them and losing your cool. Like I said, I'm not trying to bring you down at all, but you have to understand that there are going to be people that have positive points of view on 3D animation and all I ask is that you respect these people.
