  Our Palest Star - PrologueBorn a pale Tiefling girl to two human parents in a small town is bad enough. But born with magic abilities and unnaturally large stature was downright cruel. Before I was even able to walk the community shunned me, my alabaster skin, small horns, tail, darkened fingers and toes and luminous golden eyes marking me as "Other". As an infant candles and lamps would flicker and change color, my cries would sometimes boom outwards, far louder than should be possible and my cradle would sometimes rock itself with a low rumble. But my parents cared for me, never once did they see me as a monster, I was their darling Agie and a symbol of their love.
Growing up I stayed inside most of the time, only venturing out with the supervision of at least one of my parents. I have vague memories of my mother shouting at furrow browed individuals who would point at me and scowl. She was always so brave.
Often I would see other kids playing and would ask my parents if I could join them but they always told

Sleeping in my bed, exhausted from a long day of bending over to tend the garden, I lay sprawled out, a sliver of a moon casting its faint silvery glow through my cracked window. Outside, the hum of summer insects and a chorus of frogs pours in, the night orchestra playing its best. If not for this I might have heard him coming.
I awake with a start as a hand clamps around my ankle, pulling me from my bed. Cold water splashing in my face, soaking into my nightgown.
"Begon Demon!" roars the voice above me, "I burn you with sacred water!"
Screaming, still delirious from my sleep, I put my hands out in front of me, pushing the assailant away. The shouting continues as I am doused with more water, from the center of my chest erupts a flash of heat, surging through my arms. Eyes clamped shut, there is a bright flash and a roar of fire, the voice shifting from anger to terror.
