hello, Reinhard.....i was admiring your gallery....very nice....and this led me to some of your journal entries....love your "philosophy" and observations.....they seem very cogent and right on the mark....particularly the remarks about " fan" art....well thought out...bravo, Reinhard.....

Thanks for asking and so sorry for my absence. We are having a little health crisis here (Felix mainly, spending a week in the hospital) that my thoughts are a bit occupied. On top of that it seems that after workshop with Dirk I fell into an artistic hole so to speak. My desire to draw, and hence to spend time on DA is at a low right now.

So good to hear that the exhibition in New York had a positive outcome for you and it brings you closer to your personal goal to only live for and by your art.

I am still following Gerald and enjoy all the works and inspirations he posts. Does he intend to follow this 'antique' look for the rest of the year or is it something he will only explore for some time to then later move into other directions? Does this have, next to post one picture a day, an additional underlying motto?

Cheers my friend and greetings to Val,
Reinhard

as he told me (he is kind of a dodgy fellow) the antique look seem more apropos to lo-fi Photography. Plus he kind of feel like me that why show whats pretty in everyone eye when you can turn them on to the beauty of the overlooked, he has a great point there. He also said he spend no more than fifteen minutes a day on it something about having more important things to do, what he needs is better work ethic. Kind of like you and me Reinhard

Very nice work Reinhard one can see great growth and effort here, what some don't understand is a great work-ethic trumps talent and some such as yourself... have both

just a note to let you know i didn't fall of the planet, for some reason the paintings and encaustics are selling like mad, Ive sold all id did for ArtPrize and the galleries want more, so now im in strange place, the moneys i really good for the time involved and i like doing them, but i want to draw more....drawings sell a lot slower and to make any money i have to charge 30k for a year long drawing like the one im working on. anyway i have been drawing but doing both, im not used to that at all.

I was really wondering and had a note to you on my to-do list. Great to hear they are keeping you busy and that the ArtPrize was not a completely negative experience for you. Can you share what you are producing at the moment?

ill show an update in a week or so on the tree piece, Also i have a new work called "Waking up the Ghost" im working on the surround but ill post it...people here wont like it much but as with my last encaustic they sold of $4000 per painting, they took about ten hours to do. the drawing "Stripped" took 800 hours and sold for $8000. this does not mean im not going to draw for that's what i want to do, but is going to bit of a give and take. thanks Reinhard...........................Armin

Armin, my friend. Such sad news. Please know that Regina and I feel very deeply with you. All we can say is that we wish you strength in this difficult time. Losing the parents, even if it were, as you say, 'his time', it still hurts. As I said to you when we learned of your beloved mother's death, people are only really gone, once we forget them. Parents we never forget. They will always continue to live in us.
Please let me know if there is anything we could help.
Best regards,
Regina & Reinhard

Many thanks for these kind words. I am honoured. But that you have not done anything, as you say 'decent' I can't agree with that. You have a very distinct style shining through and your work is very beautiful in its own right. Armin Mersmann (nimra here) told me that we have to find ourselves in what we do and not try to imitate and compare to others. It took me a while to understand but I think I am coming closer to it.

Reinhard1 In reply to 1nimra [2011-04-12 15:01:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much for the heads up. I wish you all the very best. Keeping the concentration for one year on a very complex drawing requires a very dedicated artist. I recall having read that Courbet drew over a year on a work as well. I was always wondering though if the artists worked exclusively on that one piece or if it were an on-off thing. Knowing how dedicated you are to your art, I am sure you will keep the concentration and patience for that time and it will be a stunning piece. Hope that one day you'll share.
Greetings and our very best to Val as well.
Cheers, Reinhard

Reinhard are you sill at Art Papa? i was thinking about putting something on there but i thought better of it.

it just seems like such a limited outlook over there

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Reinhard1 In reply to 1nimra [2011-03-27 15:51:17 +0000 UTC]

Armin, I am but rather limited. There is a slow-down since quite some time. At ST as well and at WC I am no longer active. Seems that they are all going through a slump, not only artistically but quantitatively as well. My impression at least. Why not test it with your SP which IMHO is VERY interesting and impressive, AND different. It is definitely worth showing to all. Whether the response will be justifying your post is a risk I have to admit.

But even here, in subgroups like Graphite-Gods and God-is-a-pencil, activities are slowing down. I have noted that submissions (in my case Life's Lines) are either pending since 2 weeks(God-is-a-pencil) or were rejected because of 'timed out' (Graphite-Gods). As Í have said before: 'life is tough but unfair'.

Have you started your 'monster drawing of trees' as yet?
