Hey thanks! and yeah, I tend to move from one medium to another over time. I was really into photoshop for a while, then writing, the. drawing, then writing, and now music. I still have all the skills I learned, all that is lacking is inspiration.
Thanks for the comment!

Those are excellent questions.
When I face a challenge, I try to understand it. If I can understand the problem or obstacle in front of me, I can think of ways to work through it. If none of my solutions succeed, I try to work around it. If I am incapable of doing what is required of me for whatever reason, I start over and also consider the importance of the goal, weighing risk/effort/work/time against the reward at hand.
Even when I fail I learn more about myself and the world. No opportunity taken is a waste of time.
All of this may seem too naive, but it's how I see things.

What do you learn by failure? That you are inherently deficient.
By extension of logic, all humans are finite and weak, and we prove it daily by our failings.
So, the goal in Philippians 3:14 is unattainable, humanly speaking. A God-initiated calling/assignment has to be; otherwise, He'd be lowering His standards, right?

Phil314 In reply to Same-side [2012-07-30 01:01:42 +0000 UTC]
While that is true, the opportunity lies in learning why you failed. Wen you learn why, if you try again or face a similar challenge, you have the experience from the times you failed. So, you may fail again, but in a different way; or you may fail in the same way for a different reason. Either way, it also adds to your experience and your chances of success the next time around.
I do not know the goal of the Philipians, but the pursuit of it is what matters, isn't it? That's the purpose of that line of Philipians 3:14 as I understand it.
But if God gave any man a task, why must it be necessary for Him to act for the goal to be reached?

So, the point of life is to experience life, in your opinion?
By contrast, the goal of life is Jesus, in Paul's opinion.
The context in which Paul is writing this passage is a bit complicated. First, he's describing all the praise and social blessings he received before his "Damascus" moment - when he was a hard-core Pharisee and persecutor of Christians. But then, because of that encounter on the road, he says, "The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I'm tearing up and throwing out with the trashβalong with everything else I used to take credit for."
He goes on to describe the suffering he's experienced as a result of his conversion, calling it a better trade-off, because of what he's gained from following Jesus. 3:14, specifically, is talking about the daily journey Paul has - the daily chasing-after (the goal being Christ-likeness).
Paul has to strive and struggle after this righteous (humanly unattainable) paradigm and endure terrible suffering besides. It's not by anything special in Paul that he keeps going, despite being beaten more times than he can count, being whipped, being clubbed with sticks, being stoned, being shipwrecked (3 times), and more [link] .
How is he able to go on then? His answer is in 4:13 - "Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the [power of the] One who makes me who I am." That's why God has to act: because we can't do it on our own.
I probably went overboard with the details, but hopefully this kinda answers your questions. Does it?

Your responses are very detailed and thought provoking. Believe it or not, this conversation helped me to explore my own beliefs and understand it. I do believe that the goal of life is to experience life, and that does differ from the Christian faith. Very interesting discussion

Ah, because the reference that came to my mind was Philippians 3:14 -I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onwardβto Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back. It's kind of a big deal.

It's how I feel a lot of times when I try to achieve something and the world gets in the way. I know my goal and no matter what I'm going to get there.

But what if it's not the world that's in the way? What if you're simply not strong/capable/wise enough to handle a given challenge? What if you're just human? Then what?
