Remember that huge argument we were having on here about that? I can't find it!

Ah, that is good.
I had a Star Wars dream the other night (my first in ages). Yoda-crossed-with-Mahatma-Gandhi got tricked by Luke into eating pink candyfloss, which then turned into a beard.
Oh, and Leia was a club singer at one point.

Nazafar In reply to starom [2009-06-15 12:35:49 +0000 UTC]

Very much so. I often find endless blocks of dry prose difficult to mentally digest; Tariq Ali somehow makes it more accessible by incorporating poetry into it.

I'm also reading a book by Daniel Barenboim (he seriously ought to be Prime Minister of Israel!); it's called something like Everything is Connected: The Power of Music... I completely agree with his view that music can mirror every aspect of human existence, and has the power to diffuse conflict. I'd definitely recommend it!

Nazafar In reply to indikat [2009-04-01 21:45:52 +0000 UTC]

(At last, she speaks! )

I have been fine, if somewhat stressed out by school; thankfully the weather seems to be improving.
Have been obsessively following the news coverage of the G20 protests. I would I had been in London today.

How've you been these past few months?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indikat In reply to Nazafar [2009-04-02 07:43:34 +0000 UTC]

(You're ... alive!)

Ah, school! Hope all is going like you want it to be!^^
I heard a guy got killed yesterday in the London protests If you ever go, be really careful. What's happening with the world is so unfair :/ I wish I could do something about it..

I've been okay, been busy with Uni, midterms and photography! I can't wait for my 4-month summer vacation, though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nazafar In reply to indikat [2009-04-18 12:22:41 +0000 UTC]

(Apparently so... )

Have just been enjoying a fortnight-long Easter holiday! Back to school Monday, though. >_<

You are quite right, a man did die during the G20 protests. His death was originally thought to have been due to a (badly timed) heart attack, but video footage of him being beaten up by police officers has now emerged, and it's only recently been concluded that he actually died of internal bleeding. So you were right all along! Just goes to show how the police tend to dissolve the peace, rather than keep it.

Do you know, the other week Scotland Yard conducted an anti-terror raid in the north of England on the grounds of "a very big plot" being uncovered. They managed to arrest 12 people pretty promptly but, so far as I know, have not yet found any concrete evidence to suggest an attack really was being planned... which is a bit ridiculous to say the least.

As for wishing you could do something about the sorry state of affairs in the world... God, so do I.

When's your summer vacation? Have any plans?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indikat In reply to Nazafar [2009-04-21 11:08:50 +0000 UTC]

(Good to know you're still *dramatic pause* aliiiiive )

So, how was going back to school? A pain in the eye, I s'pose?XD

I can't believe how harsh the police can be on civilians! They've put some footage about police violence during the G20 protests on Al-Jazeera and really.. it's truly revolting!

Aye, I've heard about the raid XD! Ridiculous, indeed.
Plus, I can't believe how many nations either boycotted the UN summit or left when the Iranian president talked about Israel's racism! I know, he's straightforward and all, but, really, he's just so right about that! I'm sure every nation that left has something bad to reproach itself.

Summer vacation starts on the 16th of June (last final) but because it's a very easy one, I'd say 8th of June! When is yours? Mmm, I was thinking of working a bit at my Uni and then travel but who knows. You? Any plans?

Oh and do you use MSN messenger by any chance?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nazafar In reply to indikat [2009-04-22 20:35:14 +0000 UTC]

(Good to know y-- ...ah, forget it. This is pointless)

Getting back into school hasn't been too bad. I think the pleasant weather has helped. Nothing makes a situation seem better than it really is like a dose of vitamin D, eh?

Yes, it's so appalling... They show the footage of Ian Tomlinson being hurled to the ground on the news every day now. The death itself is tragic enough, but the fact that it took so long for it to actually be investigated is what really appalls me. Even now the police are asking for a third post mortem.
I wrote an email - well, more of a rant - to my aunt in New Zealand telling her about some of the protests I've been going to recently, in which police tactics (such as "kettling") had been, at the very least, questionable. I wrote that on the 31st March. The very next day, I found out a man had been killed in the G20 protests...

Oh, don't get me started on those bleeding anti-terror raids. Nothing's come of them, y'know! They've released all of the men allegedly involved in the plot on the grounds of insufficient evidence. Now my opinion is hardly a valid or informed one, but... if there's one thing that is going to make Muslims in Britain feel persecuted and resentful, it is this sort of uninformed incrimination by the police.

Oh, that pissed me off immensely as well! I'm no fan of Ahmadinejad myself, but on the matter of Israel's racism I couldn't disagree with him. The thing is, many of the UN diplomats who attended the meeting had been prepared to leave beforehand. They weren't even willing to give the president a chance to open his mouth, which strikes me as utterly craven.
It's so terrible how anyone who dares to criticize Israel seems to be labelled a racist, antisemite, Nazi, etc. But where exactly was the racism in Ahmadinejad's speech at the UN summit? I've only read a few odd extracts from it, all of which I agreed with; but does that then make me a racist?
Also, Gordon Brown is a duplicitous *!*BLEEP#*!*. You would never guess that four months ago he was condemning Israel for its actions against Gaza, from the way he reacted to the Iranian president's bold address the other day.

Ah, lucky you. My exams finish around 16th June, but we don't break up for the hols until a month later. >_<
Whereabouts are you thinking of travelling?

Well, it's going to be a bit of a busy summer for me, as I'll be making trips to the Netherlands, Italy and Greece in the coming months; the one to Greece was organised by the school Classics department, while the others are tours with two separate choirs that I belong to!
When I'm not gallivanting round Europe, I should also try and get a part-time job...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indikat In reply to Nazafar [2009-05-02 12:13:58 +0000 UTC]

Aye, one should be really careful when going to demonstrations. I went a couple of times, and it always ended in a funny way (no sarcasm here!). I consider myself lucky!

I so agree with you! Israel IS a racist state. PERIOD!Plus, the "antisemitism" propaganda... it pissed me off so much! I explain to people that Arabs ARE Semitic too so labeling us Arabs as antisemitic is just plain ... odd! Bah, some things will never change, sadly...
Sadly also: if you agree with someone who is against the majority's opinions, you're labeled as racist, etc... and at them XD!

I don't understand, why you still have to go to classes if your exams are over? I find that funny!

I still don't know where to travel but most probably Europe!

Aha, choirs! That's really great!Plus, you get to travel!Don't forget to take your camera with you - it'd be nice to "see" those countries! I've been to Holland before, really beautiful and nice country
I'll most probably get a part tme job in summer too!
