Why thank you! CCS! I almost went there. Amber Thomas begged me to come! She is so nice.
Best of luck!

almost? where did you go then? I was really tied to several schools, but it was ultimately a financial/distance decision. Amber is very nice.

Yeah I amgoing to SCAD starting September 14th. She is very nice, and I understand. You'll have to tell me what it's like there.

oh exciting! i was considering SCAD too, but i didn't had the funds nor the time to add more options. I actually finalized my school choice in June. XD super late.

yeah. I'm not sure how'd I fare at CCS except for working hard (lots of refs to it being a boot camp, specifically for auto and industrial design kids). I would love to have had more time and funds to look at more options for illustration majors. I deferred my admission to SVA during the whole application thing, so if 1st year at CCS doesn't work out, I'll transfer.
Good Luck for your artistic endeavors too!

Hahah, thanks, I'm glad. I just looked through your gallery and your realism is amazing.
I went to SVA last summer for the cartooning program and it was great, I learned a lot and all the teachers were really nice. But next year I'm going to Uarts for illustration because they offered me a huge scholarship and financial aid package.
Possum buddies? haha.

Thanks for the compliment, its nice to hear something from a fellow artist rather than seniors in high school that think I'm doing something really "crazy".
I've heard great things about the summer cartooning program and the main reason why I didn't jump at SVA then is the same reason I'm still not jumping at them now: money issues. with this recession and my dad switching jobs and the possibility of my grandmother living with us, I can't afford to be in serious debt if I'm not sure about the investment. I'm not looking to be a super successful graduate or anything, but I don't want to be on the edge of bankrupt before I'm 30.
SVA was my first choice, and still sort of is- if I can afford it or at least manage.
I'm actually in committee now with SVA and CCS to see if they can match MIAD and SAIC.
but based on your experience, if you were offered money to go, would you go to SVA? I was very impressed and excited about the faculty list and the all the artists that I'm in awe of. Do you think it's worth the price of NYC? chicago is slightly cheaper on my end, but I'm not even sure if I'm going there either.
and we could totally be buddies. I'm usually fun.

If you can afford it, I'd say SVA is totally worth it. I would have defiantly gone if they had offered a better financial package, they were my first choice school. But... I really understand what you mean about money issues. It's such a pain, but everyone has to make compromises because of the economy.
You already seem to be well on your way when it comes to art, I'm sure you'll be successful at any art school.

that's what I'm feeling about SVA-I hope to hear about committee by the end of this week. and then I'll have to hear about the quotes from CCS and Otis to see if they can match MIAD or SAIC. My CCS advisor basically told me that CCS wants me there enough to match MIAD, but it's dependent on my commitment level to them. They don't want to kill the chances of some kid who really wants CCS more with their application.
Perhaps it'd be easier for you to say something if I gave you the estimates (I'm very indecisive, so any addition input is great):
SAIC 49280 (4 years) + 28000ish in loans
MIAD 60000 (4 years) + 4700 grant and 7000ish in loans
CCS 40000 before committee (4 years) + loans
SVA in committee + 42000 in loans
Otis possible committee, just recently accepted.
As for success, I'm very self-deprecating, but I appreciate your compliments. I feel like I have to visit every school to really figure out which one I want, 'cause they are getting neck and neck with the money part for me-I owe them a visit.

Yeah, you should check out the schools to see which one you like best. It would be horrible to go to a school you don't like just because they offered you the most money. You also have to take dorming fees and stuff into account. Food plans and just general cost of living can kind of negate what might look like a big loan.
It's all so stressful, right? I'm kind of glad I decided on a school early.

Yes, it is very stressful. I wish that I decided earlier but there were circumstances beyond my control for some of the delay. Even now, it's been kind of iffy to convince my parents that I should go to art school. I've left them no other option really, but I get the feeling that they don't believe in me. Or maybe I'm just doing that doubt thing again.
It's impossible to visit SVA or Otis, but I'm trying to see MIAD and CCS next week.

Well, I can tell you that SVA is in a really nice part of the city. There is a police station a few blocks over, so it's a really safe area. There's also a few good places to eat and the dorms I stayed in were a decent size. It's a nice campus.

sorry for the much belated reply, a lot of stuff happened in the summer so far.
and i bet SVA is awesome. so that is why I deferred my admission to next year, in the event that I don't dig CCS after the first year/my financial outlook is stronger. If that doesn't happen, I plan to attend SVA for my MFA (or SAIC).

Sounds great! I hope you like it there. I dunno about my future, but I'm excited to start living it? I just found the site of an illustrator that worked for storyboards on Coraline- how neat is that?
