No problem. I'm running around getting reference pictures for the blades I’m trying to build for the 3dmg. The blade size idk I'm trying to figure that out. So far i keep changing blade sizes.

I'm currently trying to make one right now, found your things helpful for references that i needed. Currently trying to figure out the blade length and with. I'm using cardboard as a start though i dont want to mess up while i sketch it out then cut it lol.

Yeah, finding scale is tricky... it's a fair amount of staring at reference pictures, staring at yourself, and trial and error.

Lol it's a bit irritating though. I'm trying to figure out ways to break it down once i do complete the handle and blades. I'm new to this though so it like. Lets see lets make the blade about arm length. Lets try to figure out how wide the blade should be so it doesn’t look weird, then i take my hunting knife and place it on top of it and the blades about the same size.

Oh, I know it. You look at them in a picture, or on an action figure, and you try to gauge the length and width from that... And then you put it together and they don't look long enough. I had to remake my blades a couple times before I got a scale that seemed to work; the break-lines aren't quite how they're supposed to be, but it's as good as I can get for now.

I plan on using pipe cleaners and wrapping them in black electrical tape for the wiring look. What are the sizes you used for your blades though? I’m 5'10 in height so its a little interesting.

I used regular black pneumatic tubing for mine. As for the blades, the handles themselves are, I think, about ten inches long, and the blades are about two and a half feet long by a little under three inches wide ( I'm 5'10" as well).

I did, and they look pretty good so far! What are you planning to make the final pieces out of?

Lonewalker2 In reply to bl4ckr41nb0w [2014-08-01 06:09:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure right now, I seen people make them out of craft foam and wood. I might try and see if I can make molds out of them, might be interesting. Also my blades without being inserted into the handle are about 3 wide and 29 and 3/8 in length. The handle is 10 7/8 long and about 4 3/4 wide from trigger tip to finger holes on handle without a trigger that i haven’t made yet.

Not a problem. I believe ill just use cardboard and modifie it so I can use it instead of everything else. Thinking of warping it with masking tape and then using glue and paper and wrap them on it so i can then level it and paint it to the way i want it.

Sounds like a fairly solid and lightweight option; just be careful on the masking tape. Put a little too heavy a wrap and it'll be tricky to level out the grooves.

Lonewalker2 In reply to bl4ckr41nb0w [2014-08-06 20:03:01 +0000 UTC]

I warped it at least two times and added another layer so its alight. i think adding dry wall paper glued to it to fix the even look to it. I did farely good with the masking tape by itself nonetheless.

Well, it's a process I've never really tried myself, but I've faith in your abilities, so I'd imagine it'll turn out great! Also, I posted up dimensions of what I've gotten finished so far; might be of some help.

I found out the masking tape i have doesn’t work well with either wood glue nor paste glue so I’m going to add clear masking tape around it and use paints on it. Any ideas as to what paints and what layers i should do them in? I been fixing my flash light tazer since internet went down today. I was think silver metallic spray paints and sharpes.

Clear masking tape? Is that sorta like packing tape? Because if so, that's going to be a tricky surface to paint (not to mention masking tape itself is sorta meant to repels most things like tape and glue). Though, in my opinion, primer it with a grey or black primer, sand it with a fine grit sandpaper (to give it a bit more tooth for the paint to adhere to), spray it with a metal paint (I tend to stay away from "spray silvers", as they have a bit of a cheap look, but it's down to preference. A satin-metallic steel grey, or even stainless steel paint look great). If you plan to use the sharpies for the lines on the blades, apply them next, then cover it all in a flat clear to seal it.

Yes it 's. So prime it with a Gray or black so the paint will become adhesive. Sand it some with a fine grit, spray with metal paint that is a satin metallic steel Gray or just stainless steel paint then after that put the marking on it then clear coat. Should be fun i been taking auto classes so i know a few things about paint.

It really comes down to the surface... The "clear" aspect of the tape worries me, and hopefully all your layers don't just come flaking off when you're done >.<

Lonewalker2 In reply to bl4ckr41nb0w [2014-08-13 17:03:26 +0000 UTC]

I'll just add more layers of masking tape to it so i could do that. I didnt use the clear shiping tape though.

I was walking around k mart and found spray paints for 3.12 i wasn’t sure on them i was just looking. Also found some rain boots for my outfit which walmart has for 15 which i need to look into. The rest of the outfit I’ll be ordering the belts the jacket and the skirt. Pants I’ll still be looking for.

White straight-leg pants aren't too tricky to come by... I got them at Hot Topic. The rest has been delegated to the other people in my group, so all I had to focus on was the gear.

That's nice you had a group to help you with everything else. I'm just by myself doing everything lol. I know jcpeeny has a pair i haven’t check hot topic yet.

bl4ckr41nb0w In reply to Lonewalker2 [2014-08-16 20:44:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, the downside is I have to make three sets of gear... and they all have to match the one set I've already made... and I have to make sure the harness actually supports the gear I made.

Lonewalker2 In reply to bl4ckr41nb0w [2014-08-17 00:03:57 +0000 UTC]

Also jcpeeny has them for cheaper (the white pants), um as to that has to be time consuming though. I wonder what materials you used on yours and the steps you took. You had to make them a total of three times wow. I'm sure there going to look great though.

Ah, mine were on sale when I got them xD.
As to the materials, I listed them in some of my progress pictures. The steps were about the same as you; drew everything out first, then referred back to the blueprints along the way.

I been trying to work on my gear and outfit while im restoring a truck, which i'm working on bringing to my school to speed up the process and help. So i'm just working on everything at one time it seems. Also i'm studying for my ASE test which will make me certified as a auto body and engine teck.
