hey, since you're an expert about 'Murica, it seems, how would it's society changed, if (during WW2) USA lost 30% of population (killed), NY, DC and Philly nuked, occupied and pillaged for next 10 years?
I am just not sure, if such hellhole would created extreme lefty or extreme righty feels in remaining population

Well since it's WW2 I'd assume that the occupiers would have to be the Axis powers. If it was occupied by Nazis, the Empire of Japan, or both I'd say it would create a very Fascist setting. Perhaps they would very in their degree but ultimately it would create a very "extreme righty" feeling. I suggest that you read the book/watch the show "The Man in the High Castle" for inspiration on this project of yours

In my timeline, they kinda abandon occupation, when all the industry, machines, gold, everything valuable is sent home as 'reparations', leaving destroyed country to itself. All main population centers depopulated or nuked and left dead.

Imagine giant North American version of Somalia or Libya these days. Or China during warlord era.

i can offer you very short description for him:

Evergreen Bastion, Earth Pony stallion. Coal-black fur and mane, dark blue eyes, manestyle similar to Soarin's, just shorter, body shape same as Caramel's. He's botanist, cottage nearby Everfree Forest and Ponyville with own tiny orchard, every tree grows different fruit: lemons, oranges, cherries, plums...even exotic one's as lychee, since he constantly refuses to winter wrap his place.
From both reasons, he's not popular amongst Apples, and had quite few (verbal) fights with Applejack (from some 'odd' reasons, he kinda likes their fights - totally tsundere love there). In addition, he's grumpy and secretive (just slightly softer personality than Limestone Pie), never even said from where he's from. Twilight Sparkle is the only pony in town he doesn't consider ignorant or too obsessed by one topic, so he debates about research or literature whenever he needs something from library.
if he wears anything, it's his steampunk-looking bronze monocle, when he works on garden or orchard, to find any imperfections or diseases on plants.

there goes my imagination.
