You artwork is way too good for you to only have 1.3 thousand views. At least not over two years of having an account. You should be recognized by someone big! Anyway...I'm watching you now. xD

Hey man, your art just popped up in a group I watch and I have to say it looks awesome

You have some great ideas in your work. Very creative and inspirational. It's awesome that you did graphic design too, I'm about to enter my third and final year and also want to get into children's illustration

Thanks

I hope you don't mind me asking but is there any advice you can give me for getting started in children's illustration? Are there any companies I should be looking at that might be more open to considering illustrators fresh from university or is it more likely that I'll need to do some general graphic design work before I get noticed?

Hi ya,

Looking at your portfolio (gallery on DA), it looks as if your work is more conceptual/visual based, which is good for games and character development - if children's illustration is what you yearn for, try to illustrate more narrative pieces of work this will get across how well you interpret a story etc. If you're looking at getting started, The AOI is a good place to look, they give guidance to illustrators and can vett your folio and give advice on how you should present your work (however that isn't a free service). They also have a list of agencies as well, some are children based so best to look at them. I would say continue on the graphic design front, if the illustration is slow, then you can double up on doing design work. Also look at having your own site if possible, agencies like to view online work as well.
There's loads more i can rant about, but hope this helps.

Thanks very much

Do you think there's any place in the illustration world for the kind of work I'm producing currently?

I don't mind creating more narrative pieces. In fact I'd say my ultimate goal would be to create a webcomic and be able to live off that as a source of income, so I'm already interested in storytelling and narrative mediums. But I'm curious about whether there would be any work available doing the kind of illustrations I'm already making.

Hi ya,

i think your style would fit quite well within the older/teens side of kids illustration, Kids channels would be a good place
to look into or the gaming industry. There are a few recruitment agencies that place illustrator/visualisers within companies for projects and campaigns. Otherwise see if you can get on an agents books. Definitely push forward with the comic and try to challenge yourself on timings. it's only a plus to turn around work quickly and to a high standard.

Whether there is work available for your style, fraid i can't say. You're best off speaking to some agencies and asking them for their point of view. It is tough to get going, hence why i work in design as well. But do perservere, as it is a rewarding experience.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's some great advice

Also thank you for adding me to your watch list, it really means a lot that a professional would take time out of their schedule to give me some pointers and look at my work
